Dr. Alexander E Tzouanakis, MD

After reading the rather negative review from the person whose father, sadly, died while under Dr. Tzouanakis' care in a hospital, it was hard to reconcile that image with the doctor that I met for the first time two days ago in his office. I respectfully suggest that the problem may have been largely to the institutional lack of adequate care rather than any fault on the part of Dr. Tzouanakis. Here's why. It has been a long time since (largely because of insurance restrictions on how long a health care provider can spend with a patient) a doctor has spent a good deal of time with me carefully reviewing my history and looking at all the pertinent records on the computer (CT scans, notes from other providers, etc.) as well as asking all the right questions and listening carefully to my responses. He was very professional, thoughtful, and truly interested in doing what he could to help me improve my long-standing chronic lung condition. He went over alternative things I could do and… suggested a few changes to things I had not been aware of before. Now, two days after my appointment, I already feel better that I have in a very long time! Another treatment that he suggested must be approved by insurance before I can start it but I am looking forward to trying it out (if approved) because of my confidence in Dr. Tzouanakis.

My father was in the ICU this Spring and we had a horrendous experience with this facility. They couldn't seem to properly diagnose him and were negligent. Dr. Tzouanakis rolled his eyes at my father who had dementia. He barely came to the room but maybe one time to check on him. My father died under his care. The nursing staff told us he was stable and it was OK to take a break and go home as he was resting and would be taken off a sedative in the morning. 45 minutes after we left the hospital my mother was called to be told her husband of 59 years had gone into cardiac arrest and was dying. Dr Tzouanakis and his staff were not on top of things. We later found out he had sepsis upon admission. Had we had all the facts, had they been compassionate, we at least would've had the opportunity to be at his side at the end. Dr. Tzouanakis' bedside manner was uncaring and it was as if he couldn't be bothered.
