Dr. Alexander Chinyung Wu, MD

Dr. Wu is rude and incompetent. About three years ago, he did laser iridotomy on both of my eyes, saying that the procedure was necessary to prevent glaucoma. He did not explain the side effects of it. After he did it on one of my eyes, I told him that I saw two fluorescent white lines in my vision, and expressed my concern whether I should go ahead with the procedure on the other eye. He was rude and said impatiently that the white lines will go away in several months. So he also did it on my other eye, and again I saw the same white shiny lines in my vision. I still trusted him though, believing that they will go away. But now, more than three years after the procedure, I still see the two white lines in the vision of my both eyes, which bother me a lot. On top of it, my right eye is even worse. He doesn't care about his patients, only his money.

I was billed for a battery of eye health tests when only asked for a vision exam. I'm assuming my disclosing of family medical history prompted him to deem that I “needed” a diabetes eye exam and other eye health tests. The front desk would not directly answer any questions regarding what exactly I was billed for. They were allusive and defensive. They gave me such a hard time for simply trying to get the contact prescription for the equivalent to my glasses degree. Foolishly, I told them I wanted to order contacts from elsewhere so they pulled all sorts of strings to avoid giving me the prescription. During my visit, I heard a front desk lady who kept obnoxiously fixing a patient’s use of optometrist vs ophthalmologist while he was simply trying to tell her he would like to decline going forward with the appt. I understand that they cannot possibly help every individual with every little thing as they already are so busy (especially during the pandemic) but the receptionists… need to stop talking over/rushing people and patronizing them like no one is worth their time. I’m not demanding to be entitled to some amazing customer service…just decent patient transparency and communication. Also for the extra fee we pay for visiting an ophthalmologist, I think Dr. Wu was a bit standoffish and uninformative. I only had few interactions with him despite having spent over an hour in their office (after the waiting time) but I only got a; “looks healthy”, when quickly looking through some results and a bunch of; “is there ANYTHING troubling you today?”. The only reason why I tried this office in the first place was that I remember having pleasant experiences with Dr. Wu (senior) and his staff throughout my childhood. I can't say I'd recommend Dr. Wu (junior).

Poor bedside manner

Poor doctor with a terrible attitude. Father is a bit nicer but too reticent and shy to be a doctor. Father should really retire as I think he is near 78 years old. The younger son Alex is just rude and impatient.

Brilliant eye surgeon! I have terms of comparison. Four years ago I had cataract surgery of my left eye, performed by a doctor of great repute. Surgery was successful but even now I feel like a foreign object exists in my left eye. With Dr Wu, it all went in synch. Efficient consultation and preparation, excellent surgery at The Mackool Eye Institute., fast recovery, and perfect vision, and my right eye fills like a natural! I would definitely recommend this versatile doctor for many eye care procedures!Cons: ..too modest an office space and waiting area available for such a highly-rated professional on demand.

Staffs were rude when they couldn't verify my insurance. They also strongly addressed they won't guarantee the prescription is right for me if I ordered contact lenses on my own. I won't go back to this office again.
