Dr. Alexandra Emily Hedberg, MD

Dr. Hedberg is an excellent clinician. She really listens to her patients. Where other doctors may be dismissive, she starts from a position of believing her patients. She goes beyond treating symptoms to understanding the root cause of illness. While doing so, she recognizes the meaning of suffering and works directly with patients to reshape their experience of the self.

A thoughtful, insightful and attuned doctor. Would highly recommend.

Dr. Hedberg was a great psychiatrist. She was knowledgeable and wanted to know what was going on. Psychiatrist's I've met with in the past have focused on meds, she seemed to want to know the whole picture and her goal didn't seem to be to have me on meds forever. She worked with my therapist to help me feel great. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a psychiatrist that they want to listen to them and have a conservative approach to medication.

Dr. Hedberg repeatedly lied to me, which is unethical. She pushed me from day one to switch drugs when (at that time) it was unwarranted. When a family tragedy occurred she took advantage of my weak state and talked me into switching to the medication she’d suggested four months earlier. It was a horrible switch. She didn’t monitor me appropriately and I had intense, protracted withdrawal. She didn’t cross-titrate me, which is standard practice; she actually said “let’s go all the way off [the drug] and see what happens.” When I was finally on the new drug, I was incredibly nauseous and she told me there was NOTHING I could take that wouldn’t give me serotonin syndrome. My primary care doc prescribed me anti-nausea medication. The final straw was when I told her the new med was worsening my depression. I am in the mental health field, so I know she was ethically obligated to conduct a risk assessment at that point. Instead, she said “well, you’re just going to have to wait because I’m… not changing anything for three weeks”. No. Completely unethical. Never really listened to me. Clearly she’s just in it for the money. Save yourself great discomfort and stay far away from Alexandra Hedberg.
