Dr. Alexea Makiya Gaffney-Adams, MD

Dr. Gaffney is the woman who single handedly puts Stony Brook's name on the map for their renowned infectious disease care. After being seen by some of SB's "best" ID doctors, both in/out-patient, not a single provider possessed even an ounce of the deep level of clinical knowledge/expertise that she effortlessly possesses. She takes her job extremely seriously, and unlike many other providers, it's overtly evident that she treats her position not just as a "job", but as her life vocation in her extensive dedication in providing life saving quality care for her patients. Stony Brook should be extremely proud to have the privilege to employ her as a provider under their practice. Also any reviews stating "long" patient wait times, any wait times i've incurred in her office are absolutely no different than the wait times i've experienced in any other doctors office. The only difference is that when I'm called in to see her, she goes above and beyond to extensively evaluate me, explain… my disease process, and actually allow patient collaboration in treatment plans/approaches. Aside from this she makes me feel seen, heard, and valued in regard to my well being and feelings, never rushes me, and advocates for my care long after I leave her practice during after hours that she doesn't have to do for her patients, and most do not. As someone who also works in the healthcare field, this kind of care has become extremely scarce in today's modern day healthcare system, and I hope that anyone who receives the level of care that Dr. Gaffney gives is just as grateful as I've been to be a patient in her practice.
