Dr. Alfred Levi Clavel, MD

I found Dr. Clavel’s article about the negative effects of opioids useful. However, I would like to see what sources or studies were used to explain the rebound effects of opiods.

My perception is that Dr. Clavel is simply interested in treating pain, not diagnosing the source of the pain. After two visits with him, he told me I have permanent nerve damage from dental work and that I will have to learn to live with the pain via increased doses of drugs and hypnosis. Here's the thing....I didn't have dental work. I will not return as I'm interested in actually finding the source of the pain, not skipping that step, drugging up and getting hypnotized.

Clinic staff are fine. Dr. Clavel -- criticizes other medical professionals and then told me "I can't help you" because I am not interested in his pop psychology approach. I have a good psychologist when I need. Don't waste your time or your insurance money unless you are willing to believe the doctor is always right. This is faith healing. He does not like to be challenged. First visit he spoke so much and so fast...maybe to convince me? . When I wrote with concerns his office replied (a week later) that I could talk about it at my next visit. He was 40 minutes late, was not nearly as friendly - because of my email? I explained in what way i had requested help - biocontrol - he ignored this and then said "I cannot help you".

Goes above and beyond, he listens and knows his stuff. He's changed my life.

Dr. Clavel has helped me with managing my chronic pain for many years. His intellect, his grasp of the overwheming journey of chronic pain, and his humanity are all above reproach.

I've been seeing Dr. Clavel for five and a half years at the head and neck pain clinic in St. Paul. I am being treated for neck and back pain as well as headaches. He takes time to listen to all of my concerns and doesn't make me feel as if he is rushing to see other patients. The care i have received from him has been outstanding , I wouldn't go anywhere else. It is very hard to find a good doctor but I have found comfort and trust in his care. He works side by side with his wife Dianne and she is equally as caring and attentive as he is.

Dr. Clavel was arrogant and verbally abusive. I was his patient at the Abbot NW Nerurology Pain clinic. When I did not improve but instead got worse from the exercises his Physical Therapist had me do, Dr. Clavel said I must not be doing the exercises or I would be getting better. He actually said I must be malingering and or lying to qualify for disability payments which I had already qualified for. The first vist with him I brought my own copies of about 10 x-rays of my lower back. He would not look at them but instead patted my belly and said, "This is you problem" and would not listen to me saying that before I had low back problems (due to degenerative disc disease and severe spondolisthesis) I was thin and atheletic. I could go on and write a book about how terrible Dr. Clevel was to me and how he made my condition much worse than it was before I saw him but will stop here.

Minimized diagnosis, did not have proper tests like EMG, heroicly bent my knee up to my chin which caused me to lose control of that leg for a week. He is scarey, uninformed and cavalier.His rating should be not a 1, or a 0, should be a negative number. Also promised to send my MRI and other papers I brought in, and they were thrown away.
