Dr. Alfred Hobson Grimes, MD

First appointment was decent with good explanations about possible pain management treatments, but since then his bedside manner has been lacking. He doesn't even look at me and just shakes his head when I try to bring up any pain issue. I find he seems to have his own agenda and therefore does not listen. I am generally afraid to say anything and feel like my pain issues are discounted if I am concerned about medications or particular treatments. His comments are "short" but not "sweet" and in Carson City there are not choices for those of us with chronic severe pain.

I had been seeing Dr Grimes regulary. Having everything done from epideral steriods to rhfa treatments. None of which offered any relief. I told him that i would like to take a break from them, his whole demeanor changed. The medication he prescribed to me was not effective, when i told him this he would throw samples to me of other medications and told me to try them. I ended up in the er with severe pain (via an ambulance) he instructed the treating physician not to treat my pain that i was only seeking narcotics. THen he dismissed me as a patient. It was not until I ended up in the er the very next day when a doctor was able to help bring my pain levels down. Come to find out the medication dr grimes was giving me was uneffective because my pain levels were much greater. Dr grimes could care less because he wasnt receiving his$1300 a pop fee for a worthless injection.

I have been seeing the pain management team at Pinnacle for almost four years. I had been through seven foot surgeries and was left with debilitating nerve pain in both feet. I was referred to Dr. Grimes by a foot specialist as we were out of other options. I did try Prolotherapy with the hope that I could avoid taking pain medication on a daily basis. We tried for approximately a year to fix the problems in my feet. During the year, Dr. Grimes made certain I was comfortable and prescribed small doses of oral pain meds during the Prolotherapy. Unfortunately, I was not a good candidate for this type of therapy. The nerve damage is permanent. Though Dr. Grimes was disappointed the Prolotherapy was not a success for me, he referred me to his in-house medication specialist, Jackie Treeton, who is always courteous, patient, and professional. Although I had hoped for a different outcome, my pain is well-managed through other methods. HOWEVER, the good news is this...my husband is… also a patient of Dr. Grimes. He had four spine and neck surgeries that left him in constant pain for years and years. Prolotherapy has changed his life! Thanks to the gang at Pinnacle, my husband and I are enjoying a full life. I can understand why some people feel they are carefully scrutinized by the staff, but you must remember the type of services they offer and I am sure they deal with some pretty shady, dishonest, drug-seeking characters. Don't mis-preceive being cautious with new patients as "bad bedside manner".

Dr. Grimes treated me with Prolotherapy. It was a miracle. I have been in pain for 20 years and no one has been able to figure out what was wrong and treat me with anything but epidurals. The small amount of soreness after the injection was nothing compared to the years of needless suffering.

He was treating my husband for his back pain for about 6 months with injections into his back that would leave him unable to move basically for a whole day and these injections weren't doing anything to dull the pain. We fianlly started seeing the bills w/ insurance and let me tell you, this doctor is not worth the trouble. I would definately go seek another doctor for back pain.

I would NOT recommend this dr to anyone serious about "managing pain". His diagnosis is the same for every patient. Something Prolotherapy can treat. This procedure made my condition worse. I had many treatments. When trying to discuss this with the dr. he does NOT listen to his patients. He treats you like you are a drug addict and will not look at any other options. After spending a night in the ER to get relief from serious pain, this dr. exposed his true colors with Anger Management issues. He literally lashed out at me in the office, with patients and staff close by, accusing me of being a liar, mocking my pain, accusing me of violating my patient responsibility. I had been a loyal patient for a year, trying to seek the treatments to help me get better. Never one time did anything that would have violated my patient responsibility. To have a physician lash out at a patient in this manner was a complete violation of code of ethics. Along the way I questioned his ethics… in what treatments he recommended. I am looking back at my insurance claims to ensure there was no wrong doing, as I feel strongly that is all this dr cares about. It will not surprise me if I discover some unethical practices there. He spends less than 1 minute with you as a patient. Will not listen to what you are saying. But watch out when you inform him his prolotherapy treatments are not working. This guy should be in anger management therapy and should not be allowed to call his practice a "Pain Management" clinic. Period!!!

I went to Dr. Grimes for prolotherapy. This didn't work and has left my back worse than before. Also, during the process, you feel like cattle. They rush you in for shots, bill you, and then you leave. Little time is left for interaction with Mr. Grimes. The treatment was only five minutes or so, but I received a four-page bill. When I asked Dr. Grimes about this, he said it was the insurance company's doing. Very disatisfied overall. And I feel like I blew $5000 on nothing. I'd recommend researching other options before giving these folks your money.

I HAVE LIVED WITH CHRONIC PAIN FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS. I BEGAN SEEING DR. GRIMES IN APRIL. HE DIAGNOSED ME HAS STARTED A PAIN MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR ME AND IN TWO SHORT MONTHS HAVE FELT BETTER THAN I HAVE IN 10 YEARS. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE.

The Doctor and staff were very proffessional, however, once I wished to stop the in-office procedures because they were no longer working his whole demeanor changed. He then no longer wished to spend any time with me and it gave the impression that as soon as he wasn't getting as much money from insurance he no longer cared about the patient.
