Dr. Alfred John Hockley III, MD

Here's my experience with Dr. Hockley, consistent through all my visits. The front desk staff is friendly, thorough, and efficient. The nurse was professional and reassuring. Dr. Hockley is very kind, respectful, and thoroughly addressed my concerns. He takes the opportunity to teach about the condition of concern and advises on self care. Overall, I can't think of anything I would want improved. As a.retired RN coming from everything from intensive care to ambulatory care, I know how patient care should be. Dr. Hockley and his Stagg nailed it. Won't go anywhere else for this specialty of care.

I have read some negative reviews on Dr. Hockley but after my visit today I can say that those people must’ve seen a different Dr. bc everyone at Dermatologist’s of San Antonio was professional, friendly & I can’t imagine going anywhere else for any skin related issues. The ladies at the front desk were friendly & thorough in getting my information. My wait time was minimal. Lana, Dr Hockley’s nurse was fantastic! She was patient & very kind. Dr. Hockley entered the room w a smile, shook my hand & answered all of my questions. He also examined my back for me & we decided on an excision. When I checked out with Jeri, she even took the time to get the codes & let me know approximately how much my excision was going to cost me on Monday. She didn’t have to do this. She could’ve told me to call my insurance but instead she did it for me. Everyone at this office has been phenomenal! I highly recommend Dr. Hockley & his staff.

This doctor figured out the United Healthcare matrix of cost based treatment (minimal) is bestsellers vx. the benchmark United provides. In lament terms, this means that the less they cost to the insurance companies, the higher they are graded as Higher Quality Provider.

Not at all what I expected from a health care professional. He rushed through the visit was condescending and had poor bedside manners.

Went to see Dr. Hockley after seeing another dermatologist who really cared little about me as a person. From the reviews I'm seeing, there must be two different Dr. Hockley's. I found him personable, professional, and very knowledgeable. He's been practicing professionally for a long time. Also found his office nurses and staff to be significantly better than I've experience other places. And, the wait, which was about 7 minutes on a busy day was more than acceptable. Yes, I'll continue to see him as long as he demonstrates the same caring approach I witnessed today.

Many people see doctors differently, and as a medical professional I can say that he has the worst bedside manner.....not only did he NOT address my concerns, he blew me off and ordered a scraping of my back....which came back negative for fungus....no proof....no words....just a "we need to do a biopsy stat". Went in for results....he had a piece of paper in hand...asked the nurse what I was there for....and then proceeded to tell me he needed another biopsy.....ordered a steroid cream and walked out the door. A month with this cream and nothing, I bought over the counter lamisil and my condition is almost healed. He is out for money....do not go to him!!!!! Especially if you are military!

I have seen him 3 times and twice took care fi itchy mole problems . He noticed two areas and said He did not like. After a biopsy it was basil cell carcinoma . He took them both off withtwo different procedures and they are gone. My aunt recommended him and glad she did. I knew nothing of problem moles etc until I went to him. Read his resume on dermsa . He is a very good doctor.

Seemed to be a little rude, uncaring and barely even looked at my condition (sudden hair loss) from his spot 5 feet away. Chewed his gum, didn't listen to my concerns, and acted stunned and annoyed when I asked him what he wanted to test for (he had told me to get blood tests done). I had to book an appt with another dermatologist ASAP. This guy was a complete waste of my time.

I had to write a review after seeing the previous reviews. I, too, am a medical professional. Although Dr. Hockey is a little curt at times, he will diagnose your cancer with great accuracy, which is why he didn't need to do the biopsy and waste time. He knew what it was by just looking. I went to him about one issue, and as he entered the room, saw a spot on my neck, said he didn't like how it looked, removed it, and ,yes, it was malignant. What I originally went to see him about was not. Yes, I wish he wasn't so short but he has since removed 5 malignancies sucessfully. I'll take that anyday

Awful. I went in there to get a suspicious spot on my back looked at, and had a terrible experience with Dr. Hockley. He wanted to do surgery on me without even taking a biopsy. I went to another dermatologist where they took a biopsy and told me that it was a malignant melanoma and that they needed to check if it had spread to my lymph nodes. However, if they had simply removed it, the lymph node test wouldn't have worked and I would have no idea if the cancer had metastasized. All of this was only after waiting for over 30 minutes for my appointment. For the brief 5 minutes that Dr. Hockley was in the room with me, he was extremely rude, talked to me like I was an idiot, and then started talking to me about cosmetic procedures for acne. He obviously doesn't care about the patient and only wants to extract as much money as he can from them. And to top it all off, when I went to the pharmacy to pick up my acne medicine prescription that he had renewed, his office had submitted the… wrong prescription. Don't waste your time with this doctor!
