Dr. Alfredo Jorge Farinas, MD

We had to switch my mother to Dr. Farinas because she is now in an assisted living. It was too hard to take her out for appointments with the constant issues she’d suddenly started experiencing. Before even meeting my mother I ran into him in the hallway where he asked for her medical history and gave me less than 60 seconds to fill him in. Before I had a chance to say anything, he commented that “she has a lot of problems”. I had NO idea what he was referring to? She has been on blood pressure and cholesterol medication for years (as many people her age are) but both have been managed quite well for a long time. She also has RA but again, it’s managed very well and she hasn’t had a flair in years. So Dr. Farinas then stepped in to meet with mom and started quizzing her. She has Alzheimer’s and has trouble finding the correct words even though she knows the answers. There were also 3 other people in the room. That’s not the way to interview a new patient who’s already VERY self… conscious about being able to speak fluently. Had he given me the opportunity, I would have let him know that information right off the bat. He spent FIVE minutes with her (it may have even been less). He asked questions about where she grew up, what she did for work and where she lived. Absolutely nothing relating to medical history or the symptoms she was experiencing. Upon stepping out of the room his first comment to me was “Wow, she’s pretty far gone“. I was dumbfounded and thought, I’m sorry, what? At the time he met her she was also suffering a UTI which he was well aware of and was part of the reason she had trouble finding the words to answer his questions and asked me for help. It was extremely unprofessional for him to speak to me that way when I had just met him myself and definitely an unfair judgment to make based on a five minute conversation with her and the very limited notes he came in with. Then he made another comment to me stating “can she live on her own? I don’t know”. That was not even a question On my mind for this brand new Doctor who has known my mother for five minutes. I am not one of those people that lives in denial. If she needs memory care, I’m not going to put her at risk and will be the first to speak up. But Im also not going to allow a Doctor who doesn’t know her at all make that decision or judgment. Since that day, he has not seen my mother in person again, nor has he contacted me. She has had 2 re-infections and all he‘s done is call in anabiotic’s. He was supposed to refer us to a specialist but I was never given the specialists name nor did they contact me. I finally had to research and call one myself. Upon leaving before I had a chance to ask where he was coming from, he said he had many more questions for me but he didn’t have time because he had other patients to see...and quickly ran off. I have not heard from him again. When I tried to call his “office” to speak with him or leave a message with his staff to have him call me, I received a message stating his Voicemail was full. There was no office staff to answer the phone or any way to get a message to him. Obviously we won’t be continuing with this doctor.

I felt that Dr. Farinas was more interested in the female staff at the hospital and the young woman he has with him, than my care. He never listened to my chest or anything when he saw me in the hospital. All he did was walk in my room with his female companion and talk about how I was doing. I then noticed him rub his companion's backside as they exited my room. I would not recommend Dr. Farinas, giving him 1 star was generous.

He is a wonderful doctor and save my life multiple times. God bless him
