Dr. Ali Mohammad Safa, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Safa for more than a decade. In my opinion, he is the best endocrinologist in the entire DMV. Dr. Safa and Andrea (nurse) go the extra mile to make sure I have the prescriptions I need, work with my insurance, explain new insulin pump technologies, and have availability to see me without long delays.

Excellent visit, no feelings of being rushed. Dr. Safa answered all of my questions. Very calming personality is very helpful.

I went to Dr. Safa based off of reviews and recommendations from past patients. I should have run out the second I met him. His staff was friendly and helpful, but he was rude, condescending, and impatient. I felt that he really did not want to listen to me at all and only wanted to type in the values he kept interrupting me for on the computer, without paying attention to anything I answered past the first 2 words. No eye contact. This should have been the first big red flag. He made me feel like he didn't believe me and didn't care to listen, instead of trying to help me get to the cause of my symptoms. However, he changed his tune some after some testing. He diagnosed me and told me to get some new labs and come back in a few days and that we'd come up with a plan. I returned and since one of my results lowered, he negated all the other abnormal tests because of this 1 value. I kept asking questions, concerned that what he was now saying was not lining up with his statements just 2… days ago, and he kept brushing me off. Things he had stated as fact just 2 days ago were suddenly "not really true" and he was suddenly un-diagnosing me and backpedaling on everything, and pretending he had never said anything was wrong in the first place. This was incredibly upsetting, and I was in shock at this insane backpedal. How could a doctor do that? To top it all off, he walked me out and called to the receptionist "she doesn't need another appointment" as if I was being tossed out. Needless to say, I will be looking for a new endocrinologist.

Dr. Safa's level of knowledge and care are superior to any physician I have seen. I have been a patient for over ten years.

I think Dr. Safa is one of the best endocrinologists in Virginia. My cousin who is a specialist recommended him to me and i am so happy to meet him. My thyroid issue was resolved after the first visit and my metabolism is now under control. I strongly recommend him for endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism treatments.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Safa since 2012. Even though I’ve moved across the country, I’ve decided to keep my relationship with Dr. Safa and retain him as my regular Endocrinologist. Dr. Safa is imminently knowledgeable and straight to the point - which is what I’m looking for in a specialist. His staff is helpful and friendly and now that he has a lab on-site everything is rather convenient.
