Dr. Alice Chen, DO

I have been seeing Dr. Chen as my PCP for a very long time. She's nice and very patient with me. Answer all my questions. Somehow she'll always find a way to cheer me up. You know, you normally don't see your doctor until you're sick! So you usually will give them long faces and sometimes bad temper. But she doesn't seemed to be affected by my long face. Very professional! The front office is also very courteous. Always call me ahead of time to remind me of the upcoming appointment. After a physical check, they'll call me about my result and/or send me email to let me know as soon as the results are back. Dr. Chen knows her stuff!

Upon leaving she opened the door pointed her finger to lobby and shut the door behind me. This was my first appointment with my soon to be Dr for the remainder of my life. No thank you or have a good day .. nothing. This is a good DR.. I wouldn’t even say a good person. Found out today I got charged 563$ dollars for a urine test. Not a blood test or anything related to health ... almost 600 dollars for a urine test of which any type of charge was not mentioned when this was asked. They called a week later and said there was alcochol in my urine ???!!! Does not care about her patients and completely lacks fiduciary duty to of caring for her patients. Honestly only thing I think this women cares about is getting paid from Medicare and Medicaid from old Asian customers .... sad as I got recommended here from my now retired doctor who said he was referring patients here because she had a good heart. 600 dollar drug test ... and what do they call me and say.. we saw alcohol in your… urine... what a joke! AVOID this place at all costs!! If there was 0 or negative score this place is well deserving

My wife was there for a routine body check and since she had a history of hepatitis B, the doctor requested a more thorough blood test to make sure everything is ok, which is understandable. We asked the receptionist how much we had to pay, she said we had to pay $100 upfront and may need to pay more depending on the insurance coverage. A month later we received a bill from the lab for $1810.65 !! If we know upfront that this test would be so expensive we would not do that for sure. They didn’t care to check with our insurance and told us the price before the test, and now we have to bear such an outrageous bill. Truly an unfair game! They are almost to a point of scamming patients, which is very unethical and unprofessional. Definitely not recommending this crappy doctor.

My mother came in for a preventive care check. She said the doctor asked her about her current health so she told her about her cholesterol issue. In addition to already paying $100 in the office, we get 2 bills in the mail later, one from her office for an office visit and then another one from an imaging office. When I called their office to ask why she was being billed because her insurances covers preventive care 100%, the receptionist said “it was just billed that way” and did not give me any further explanation. She told me I needed to call the billing department, which I did. The representative said that I need to call the office back and have them explain because they can’t just say “it was just billed that way”. So I call the office again, she repeats the same thing to me. She says it’s because my mother talked about her cholesterol, even though it was the Doctor that asked her about her health. Then she tells me they will have the doctor call us when she comes back on the… 13th. Once the 13 rolls around, the reception continues to repeat the same excuses to my mother and says that the doctor will not speak with my mother and that they will take off 29 dollars off her bill. Mind you, that she already paid $100 in the office and is now being billed another $100. She also sent my mother off to an imaging place to get a bone density check which is also covered on her insurance. I know this because I called the insurance company and they said that it’s because of how the doctor ordered it. Instead of putting procedure, she put diagnostic. Again, since the doctor was not willing to talk to my mother and since the receptionist told my mother that if she does not pay for it then they will send it to the collections company. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR. This entire office is incompetent and only cares about money. I can understand if the doctor does not want to handle billing questions but if the front office can’t even understand why or how things are billed and how insurance works then what good are they? She will NOT be returning to this office.

She is not a good doctor, what does she care is money. She did not explain well. and only spent less than 15 minutes. She only gives us one month prescription, and want us to see her to get the new prescription, after we complained then she gave us 3 months mail order prescription. After 3 months drug company called her to extent the prescription but she refused to do it. Before we moved to Plano, TX Doctors always gave us 3 months prescription and one year refilled for one year. I don't recommend to see her.

Firstly, if you have to buy your insurance on the "exchange" she is probably not listed as accepting it but check her website or call her office as I bet she does accept it--this is great because it is hard to find a good doctor that takes "Obamacare". Secondly, in the Plano area there are many Chinese residents and she is at least bilingual English and Chinese--this was helpful as my wife is more fluent with Chinese. She gave ample time for questions and we didn't have any issues at all with the staff that was mentioned in a different review--found everyone professional and pleasant.

Her whole-body approach is thorough and refreshing. Her knowledge is extensive and her explanations of conditions and diagnoses are clear and complete. I would recommend her to anyone.
