Dr. Alice Carol Reier, MD

Dr. Reier is one of the most thorough and caring doctors I have ever been to in all my 85 years. I highly recommend her. She is exceptional.

This was my first appointment, and I had typed out a brief summary of my medical history and copies of all lab reports related to my cancer. She refused to read it and wanted me to tell her verbally about my medical history. I explained I could not remember it all and if she would just look at it and ask me questions. She refused again and said this is the way she does it. I offered to just read it to her and she said I was being hostile. Going to your first cancer doctor is pretty scary to begin with and to have such an uncooperative doctor makes it even worse. Makes you think what other problems are you going to have communicating with her.

My father died of pancreatic cancer, about a year ago. He was misdiagnosed by another physician & met Dr. Reier after he was already at Stage IV. She treated him (& our whole family) with such enormous respect. She answered our (numerous) questions. She gave him a very realistic, but also hopeful picture of what he might expect to experience as a chemo/radiation patient. Her staff was awesome! Top notch nurses & a very caring office staff made his experience a very positive one. He told everyone in his path about Dr. Reier. He often said: "My Dr. over there in Oakland is a real miracle-worker. I should be dead right now." Because of Dr. Reier's aggressive treatment of his cancer, he was able to truly enjoy what time he had left. It's quite unfortunate that he didn't find her earlier. Overall, we were all extremely impressed (& very fortunate) to have Dr. Reier treating my dad. I've never known a physician who spends more time with her patients. She left no stone unturned in his cancer… treatment & was a pleasure to know during an otherwise difficult time.
