Dr MELKELVEY was the best great surgery very informative and kevin was great to Would use again!

approximately three years ago my mother underwent surgery with dr, mcelvey to remove a small tumor in her lung. after removing the entire lower lobe of her lung ( a huge deviation from the initial surgical plan) the doctor checked in on my mother immediately after surgery and never saw her again. the follow through and communication during and after this procedure was negligent and caused significant distress to my mother and our family. my mother was forced to wait more than a week for pathology reports that apparently were available immediately after the surgery. we were extremely confused about why such a large portion of the lung was removed and, as it turns out, a tumor was never found in the tissue that doctor mcelvey removed! with absolutely no follow through by the doctor we were left to speculate and worry about what could have happened. it turns out that dr mcelvey went on vacation that day and ultimately never saw my mother again. for her follow up appointment, dr… mcelvey sent her assistant who, poor guy, was on the hook for all of our questions. he literally had to tell us that he didn't understand what happened during the surgery - even after we asked for his "best guess". we don't blame dr mcelvey for any confusion about the existence of a tumor in my mom's lung that needed to be removed - this was confirmed by numerous sources. however, i would expect that, when questions arise during surgery as they did in my mom's case, the surgeon would slow down and use the tools (scanning machines,etc.) to reassess and not simply remove larger sections of lung blindly. i would also expect that, if problems arise, a surgeon would have the professionalism, integrity, and compassion to fully discuss the situation with the family - beyond a brief check in when the patient is waking up from anesthesia! choosing to never see my mother or discuss her surgery with us obviously leaves us with a terrible taste; enough that i feel compelled to share our experience and warn others to be careful entering into a care relationship with this doctor

I saw Dr McKelvey when I was first diagnosed with lung cancer. She sat down with me and my family and answered all of our questions. She did a great job on my surgery and after care. Her office was also great to work with. I felt that she listened to me, answered all my questions, and gave me my life back!

She gave me my life back. She explained things in a way I always understood. I had esophagus cancer Stage 3b. I was back to work 5 months after surgery.
