Pain Management Concerns Ignored and Patient Gaslit I presented to the Emergency Department with severe abdominal pain rated at 7–8 on the Mankoski Pain Scale. Initially, I was administered two doses of 20 mcg F-narcotic, which provided some relief. However, my pain management was abruptly changed to IV acetaminophen, a medication that is widely recognized as ineffective for managing severe pain of this nature. During my visit, I provided documentation showing that I have genetic variants affecting pain medication metabolism. My concerns were dismissed, and I was subjected to gaslighting and ridicule by both doctors and nurses. This behavior was unprofessional and unacceptable. I fully understand that opioid narcotics can slow bowel motility, and I communicated this awareness to the staff. However, given the severity of my pain & the clinical situation, continued opioid administration was medically justified for a longer duration than was provided. The abrupt discontinuation of… effective pain relief caused unnecessary suffering.
