Summary
“I take care of kids from birth through their late teenage years,” says pediatrician Alissa Murch. She treats everything from sore throats to ear infections to more complicated health matters. At the infant and toddler stage, she emphasizes education and guidance for parents, answering questions and being a resource they can call outside of regular visits. “I think it’s important to take a family approach to a child’s care. I keep parents informed so they can make educated choices.”
Dr. Murch believes in the importance of wellness appointments. “Prevention and promoting healthy choices and activities helps children stay healthy, not only when they are young, but when they become adults,” she says. “I encourage organized sports and active play, starting when they are very young. Parents can help by being good examples—eating well and exercising. They can also help by taking their children for walks, going to parks, letting …them play outside and teaching their children games like tag that involve a lot of running around.”
While she grew up in Wausau, Dr. Murch’s profession took her outside the area for a few years. She and her husband, also a physician, are happy to be in the area to pursue their medical careers and raise a family. She enjoys running with her dogs, traveling and spending time with family.
Dr. Murch is board certified in pediatrics. She earned her medical degree at The Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She did her residency in pediatrics at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals in Houston.
