Dr. Allan M Mercado, MD

Went in on a Saturday to take my daughter, whom had fever, the receptionist calls me up and asks if dr will be primary dr. I explain to her she already has a primary dr but a family member recommended I take her with dr Mercado because they would see her. She then proceeds to ask me, rudely, if there was a sign on the door that said to "come here"? I explained again to her that I was recommended to go there, and politely told her I would take my services elsewhere!

We took my son to Dr. Mercado for treatment of an ear infection. The appointment was rushed. My wife asked the doctor about a hard, red bump on my son. He glanced at the area and told my wife it was just diaper rash. She insisted that it wasn't, due to the size of the bump and how hard it was. It was more like a boil. She asked that he inspect it, and without looking closely or feeling the bump, he briefly pulled my son's diaper down and glanced at it again. He told my wife it was just a diaper rash. In the three weeks since our visit, it has gotten bigger and bigger. We decided that we needed to do something about it so we took our son to the emergency room, where surgery had to be performed to drain the abscess. It was very painful for my son.Had Dr. Mercado taken ten to fifteen seconds to examine the problem when my son was in his office, he would have recognized that it wasn't diaper rash. He refused to do so even after my wife insisted. My wife and I were pretty sure it wasn't… diaper rash, but since the doctor was sure that it was, we gave him the benefit of the doubt. Either incompetence was at play here, or more likely, impatience. As a result of this hurried visit, my four month old son had to spend hours in pain at an emergency room for something that could have been taken care of much sooner. Needless to say, we will not be bringing our son back to Dr. Mercado. An emergency room visit is not cheap, and it should have been unnecessary.
