Dad's Dr. had taken excellent care of his vision.. Great results! Is very patient and informative we all know the staff is on strike Dr. had no need to explain issues.

Excellent care of my eye issues for over ten years. In my opinion, Dr. Whitehead saved me from going blind. I am extremely grateful for his unrelenting efforts to help save my sight. He is the best.

This doctor is an a$$. My appointment was a consult. This doctor appeared disheveled and flustered. His clothes were a mess and he looked like he had been in a fight recently. He was rude to his staff. He clearly doesn’t respect them. He was short with me. I chose to consult with another physician and couldn’t be happier.

I went to see him in Feb 2016 after my optometrist discovered a spot from a bleed/fluid leaking in my left eye. I initially thought he was good and was pleased. He told me the bleed/fluid was from an event that happened during the previous year and the fluid would resolve on it's own. He did not suggest a follow-up appt. When I went back to my optometrist the following Jan 2017, she noticed my vision was deteriorating and the fluid was still in my eye. She said I need to go back to the ophthalmologist. Which I had noticed some vision changes but didn't realize it was due to no follow up on the previous issue. This time when I went to see him this is where things totally changed. Initially, his staff did some further testing of my eyes just before my apt with Dr. Whitehead. When he came into the exam room (it was 3:30 pm) he looked like he had just gotten out of bed or had just had a fight because he hair was all over, 2 black eyes, and clothing very unprofessional. He… started going over the test results telling me I needed surgery showing me this tests only to discover they were SOMEONE ELSE's tests results. Never once offering to get MY test results but continuing to tell me I needed surgery and in a couple days. He was very flustered and insistent I needed to have him to this surgery. I tried to discuss with him some issues and he totally disregarded what I was telling him When I asked him what the possible complications of this surgery were his reply was "THERE ARE NONE IF I DO THE PROCEDURE. ALL MY PATIENTS ALLOWS TURN OUT PERFECT AS LONG AS I DO THE SURGERY." First of all, no one is perfect I don't care how good you are. Plus, I am a health professional and it is ethically not allowed to ever tell a patient there are no risks involved. It was later discovered Mercy doesn't have any eye test results for me, but they billed my insurance company and me for them. I know I had the tests, but without results I am going to have to have them repeated somewhere else, since I will never do any further eye care at Mercy in Janesville. I doubt my insurance is going to pay twice for the same test. Anyhow, it wasn't until I notified my insurance if the situation and they got involved that my insurance and I were reimbursed. I now have some significant vision loss due to his lack of recommending a follow up after my initial exam with him. However, I am grateful I never let him do surgery on me after I got to know more about his lack of ability & unprofessional practice. I have since found a true retinal specialist, Dr. Fowell in Rockford, Il. She and her whole staff are wonderful and excellent at what they do. In a final note, you only have 1 pair of eyes. Don't trust them to Dr. Whitehead.
