Dr. Allen Kuo, DO

Dr. Kuo is the BEST psychiatrist my two special needs children have ever had. This is the fourth psychiatrist for my children. His experience with children such as my son who has ADHD and Sensory Integration Disorder or Autism Spectrum, depression and other issues is extensive and he is more knowledgeable about those type of kids than all prior psychiatrists I have encountered in private practice or through 13 hospital psychiatric stays for my son. And my daughter who suffers from bipolar, anxiety, PTSD and Asperger's is equally well served by him. I cannot recommend Dr. Kuo highly enough!

I scheduled an appointment. I recieved a confirmation text, used sick time to make the appointment and then was told they filled my appointment with another patient and couldn't see me. I kept being told that I had canceled when I had not. A psychiatrists office that gaslights their patients is absolutely horrific. I won't be returning.

Does not listen very well. I timed my last visit, less than 5 minutes. Think he might have a social disorder which prevents him from listening to patients or interacting well socially. Would not recommend.

Dr.Kuo has been helping me since highschool and has changed and saved my life. He is an excellent one on one communicator on a personal level, as well as being able to make appropriate jokes that make going to him really fun! He’s always kept me balanced on my meds and anytime I need a change, he knows exactly what to do that is perfect for me. I 1000/10 recommended him to anyone looking!

Well, i'm not sure what the bad review was about but that is not consistent with my experience with Dr Kuo. He was courteous through my whole appointment and took the time to listen to my questions and concerns about meds. He even offered me options and gave me some holistic suggestions about increasing my Vit B levels and Vit D. I'm sure like anyone else he has his off days but I would agree with the other reviews here that my experience with him was amazing and that the one bad review was very wrong.

I found Dr. Kuo to be uncaring and lacking in compassion. I also found him to be rude, more so than any other experience with a doctor. His main approach to TX consisted of pushing medication. No other avenues were explored or suggested. Patient clearly let him know that there were distressing side effects of the medications prescribed. Dr. Kuo became defensive. He did not appear to listen. And believe it or not, instead of taking the patient's concerns seriously, Dr. Kuo's response was to INCREASE the very medication that was causing so much distress! Additionally, as the patient spent significant time researching the medications prescribed, and saw the VERY dangerous side effects, NONE of this was ever explained to the patient... it was never spoken of. The result of this patient being treated by Dr. Kuo is that the patient is in much worse shape than before this person saw Dr. Kuo.

Dr. Kuo is a genuine human being who uses his expertise to help you. He understands that many factors play into your total health and well-being and prescribes accordingly. Also he has no problem telling you what you need to know even if you don't like it, but don't quit. He wants you to grow and live well. I followed him from his group practice to his private practice.

Dr. Allen Kuo is an excellent doctor and I highly recommend him. He spends time with you to understand situation completely, and his medicines were very effective. He is not-greedy. When I requested referrals for my wife and my son, he referred different doctors depending on various requirements. (I have rarely seen a doctor referring another doctor in similar field. Don't know if it work-ethics / Professionalism / Non-greediness / All of it.) He treats patients nicely, has a personal touch and remembers patientâ??s issues. Once when a social worker working with me and my wife spoke with him, the doctor stood firm with his decision. I used to go to Schaumburg office, and then continued seeing him in Barrington office in spite of it being a long drive. I was recommended to Dr. Kuo by my Internal medicine doctor, and I am very glad that I visited Dr. Kuo.

Thank God I found Dr. Kuo!! He is a great guy and a great diagnostician and an expert on medications.. He found that my previous doctor had me on unnecessary lethal dosages of 3 different medications. He always seemed rushed ( not his fault) at the previous office, but since he has started his own practice, he is relaxed, spends all the time you need and seems much happier. I Highly recommend him!!!
