Dr. Allison Canavan, MD

Bedside manner was terrible. She was the on Call OB who did my emergency c-section, all she cared about was talking down to me about not having my Covid shot and “suggested” I go ahead and get my tubes tied to not have anymore. Asked me 3x and my partner had to speak up and tell her no before she would deliver my baby. My baby meconium aspirated and now has CP due to negligence over COVID and politics. My family and I Will forever remember this Dr. as the one who messed my child up and turn our lives upside down. We have daily struggles thanks to her and my child will have lifelong struggles as they get older. She clearly Values vanity, money, and power over medical care and it really shows. Especially having to follow up all bad internet reviews personally. Well, i’m not a spam review.This isn’t true experience with this woman. I’m a mother who struggles along her beautiful child and watches this child cry in pain daily over a disability that could have been prevented if I was… listened to and heard. If bedside manner existed she would have hushed and listened to me like she claims she does with all her patients. Never saw her past my child being removed from my belly either. She also was very short and abrasive with her medical team in the OR. She yelled at them and the anesthesiologist on more than one occasion, as well as myself for how I was breathing. I was told to control my breathing. I was sedated, I couldn’t feel my breathing I was doing great to be awake at that point.

When I saw Dr Canavan in early pregnancy, it was a constant struggle to get test results. I often had to call the office repeatedly to get someone to give me my test results, and then eventually someone would call back and say, “Normal,” without even saying which tests were normal. There were several other annoyances as well, and after the pregnancy ended in miscarriage, I decided to seek another OB for my second pregnancy. During this pregnancy, there were several flags that suggested the baby might have genetic condition (cystic fibrosis, or CF). My new doctor asked if I had been screened for CF, and I said that Dr Canavan had done all the basic genetic screens before my earlier pregnancy and she told me they all came out normal. My doctor and I both tried to get the actual test results but her office was completely nonresponsive. Eventually, my new doctor decided to re-do the CF genetic screen just in case. Well, it was not “normal.” I am a CF carrier and she had not told me. I… am not even sure if she ever did that routine CF test at all. As a result of this delay, we had to do way more invasive screening of this second baby. (Who thankfully turned out healthy.) This was totally irresponsible. I had thought her office were just bad at test result follow-up, but it turned out to be much worse than that.

I was very much looking forward to my visit with Dr. Canavan. Unfortunately her bedside manner was very rushed and uncaring. Her manner of speaking is extremely condescending and left me feeling unheard and unseen. As a woman to be treated this way by a female physician is incredibly disheartening. Save your time and go see other providers in the area who actually care about their patients.

While I was trying to get pregnant in 2020, she ran the exact same blood tests on me, twice! Great that I found out my Varicella Zoster IGG blood tests had the same results both times... She never seemed to pay attention to my medical charts and always was more than 15 min late to my appointments and was always dismissive. I always had to do follow up calls with the receptionist to get someone to explain my test results to me because she never followed up as promised and expected. The receptionist always volunteered to have another OB-GYN explain my results to me so I ended up switching my doctor and never looked back. I would not recommend Allison to anyone that doesn't have a strong stomach for poor and dismissive behavior.

I did not realize that this practice bills you BY THE MINUTE for how long you sit in the doctor's chair, rather than how long you actually receive care. I've never had a doctor bill this way. I sat in a gown for at least 20 minutes waiting for Dr. Canavan to see me to tell me what I already knew— that I had had a miscarriage. While her patient care once she got into the room was great, her follow up was completely missing. I had test results done to check fertility. She told me before we did the test that she'd never seen it cost patients more than $100. I got the test, was charged $400 and then never heard from her again to tell me what the results actually meant. When I called to get clarity on my results, a nurse practitioner messaged me with a one off line saying "looks great no problem." That is NOT the kind of care I want or need. Not to mention that my in-network insurance left me with close to a $1,000 bill. I would NOT recommend going to this office as they are clearly only… concerned with making a dollar rather than true patient care. (They even charge for parking).

don't even think about going to this practice - they do not come to the hospital to check on you and leave you with a resident after three days of labor. the perfect baby died in childbirth. May the grief of these families lay on her soul

Dr. Canavan was my OBGYN for my high risk pregnancy in 2017. She could not have been more supportive every step of the way, providing me and my husband with lots of information, answering a slew of questions, and keeping great track of my progress. When I ended up having to deliver early because of preeclampsia, Dr. Canavan drove in (on her night off) to meet us in the ER, and talk us through what was going to happen. I will be forever grateful to her for getting our son into the world safely and with a lot of joy. She’s wonderful.
