Dr. Amanda Marie Pennington, MD

I've been seeing Dr. Pennington for several years. She's the first doctor I've ever had who I felt actually listened to me rather than just either throwing arbitrary prescriptions or simply dismissing me. I have no doubt that she truly cares about my well being.

Caring. Follows up with you. Best doctor around. Shiland should have kept her. Mistake on Shilands part to let her go.

Dr. pennington is very professional. She cares about her patients. She listens to her patients. Sad to see her leave Shiland Family Medicine. Wish her the best in Columbia.

Dr. Pennington is an Excellent Doctor, Wow what a loss for Shiland, I really hate that she is gone, May have to search for another doctor. Shiland needs to try to hold on to their good doctors because they are hard to find. You should have offered her whatever it took for her to stay

I tried very hard to give this doctor the benefit of the doubt. When my mom went for medication refills, I did not put too much weight on the fact that she did little more than a cursory exam; listening to her lungs through a heavy sweater (I happen to own the same stethoscope she used and know the little you would hear from it would be the sweater moving at best), listening to heart over same sweater (doubt much was heard there either), and that's it. But I figured it was a brief exam and I would let it go. The vitals were done by her nurse, but I doubt this information was checked since on one occasion mom's heart rate was in the 150s and it was never mentioned or rechecked by the doctor. (I checked it myself afterwards and it had returned to less than 100; probably nerves- but never being rechecked was concerning, but I rationalized that things sometimes get missed). On future visits, no mention was made of whether the usual preventative health screenings such as colonoscopies or… mammograms had been performed, no mention was made of whether we should schedule a complete physical. It was pretty much just prescribe and go, and she didn't care if you wanted fries with that. I waned to change doctors at this point, but mom is not too keen on new things; so, before looking elsewhere, we decided to give a shot at scheduling a complete exam (although, again, this was never even suggested by the doctor). I figured if she was more thorough here, spending more time with her patient, it would somewhat nullify the cursory brief visits. The visit started with a review of systems where complaints were gone over very quickly, with some of her complaints just ignored. The exam itself did not involve any "over the sweater" listening, but it did not include a lot of the basics which should be integral to a complete physical. She did listen to lungs, heart, and bowel sounds. She pressed on her stomach. She did not look at the skin, did not look in her mouth, did not look at her back, did not check for peripheral pulses, did not check for reflexes. The entire "complete physical" took a grand total of 5 minutes at best. I have had longer experiences getting a hamburger at McDonalds. After the physical, it took close to 2 weeks to get the lab work back, which seemed odd to me since most labs do this in 1-2 days. I found this concerning because if something was seriously wrong did that mean there would be a delay in addressing it for that long, since the results had to be just sitting there. So if you are looking for a PCP who will catch an illness before it progresses this is not the doctor for you. If you need someone to refill your prescriptions and you're not concerned about preventative care, then she will do just fine. All others should look elsewhere.

Dr. Pennington is such a sweetheart and her professionalism is amazing! She is very quick and accurate when it comes to diagnosing. She such a caring lady and treats me with the up-most respect.A+++++ doctor!! I'd recommend her to anyone!
