Dr. Amen Sergew, MD

Dr Sergew is a wonderful doctor with a warm bedside manner and highly intelligent. I am so happy I brought my mother to see her , on the recommendation of a friend who gave glowing reviews. Thank you, Dr Sergew! Our family appreciates you.

I found Dr. Sergew to be arrogant, combative, and unwilling to engage in appropriate communication about a very complicated medical condition for which she was supposed to lead a thorough investigation. Based on the superb care National Jewish Health had provided for my husband some years ago, he and I made a grueling and costly journey from NY to Denver for an expert, multidisciplinary assessment, but had the misfortune to be assigned to the astonishingly unhelpful Dr. Sergew as the coordinating physician. (One small example: I had fallen two days before arrival in Denver and possibly broken my nose, and Dr. Sergew, a pulmonologist who was then undertaking a test on one of my nostrils, flatly refused to investigate whether my nose was in fact broken.) Far worse, after we'd traveled thousands of miles and booked a hotel for nine nights to meet with her, Dr. Sergew failed to take even a rudimentary history of the course of my illness, relying on false assumptions to devise a workup… that failed to address most if not all of the central issues. Despite repeated requests to meet or speak with her before the very end of a weeklong workup, Dr. Sergew was impossible to reach and, through intermediaries, insisted her approach was "perfect." It was not, and we left Denver with no clarity about the causes, possible treatments, or appropriate followup for my illness. The two-star rating is out out of respect for NJH, where other specialists were outstanding, but I would give Dr Sergew herself, whom I consider to be one of the most unprofessional physicians I have ever met, a rating of zero.

After a decade and a half of Lung issue, going to numerous other doctors that did not correct my issues, I was fortunate enough to see Dr. Sergew at National Jewish Health. She has mitigated my issues! I feel like a new man! She is very caring and is current on latest medical treatments. I highly recommend!
