Dr. Amina Abdel Shalash, MD

My son was a pt of Dr Shalash for 3 years. In that time, her saw HER only once, the rest of the time it was her nurses who did everything (they, for the record, were wonderful). We finally gave up & took our child to a dr who would actually see him & and not delegate his care out. That dr, unfortunately, moved his practice to Lexington. So, in desperation, when my son needed the newly required hepatitis vaccine, we tried to get him back into Dr. Shalash. When the receptionist found out we had had a transfer of care, I was grilled as to my reasons (because it would seem I owe them an explanation as to why I take my child elsewhere?) . I was then told she would ask Dr. Shalash if she would even see my son since we had left. I received a call a few days later saying that because we had taken him to a different Dr, she would no longer see him. I am not sure when being a medical professional turned into a popularity contest or when we got to the point of having to explain our care decisions… made for our children to get them seen by a dr. I took him elsewhere in the first place because there was a lack of professionalism in how the office was run by her staff, and it seems she herself rarely saw the patients, but just signed prescription slips and had her nurses doing the actual medical care. To then find that she seems to have the emotional mentality of a girl running for high school homecoming queen when it comes to whether or not she will accept a pt back is appalling. Trust me; if you actually want your and/or your family's care to be by an actual Dr, and not nurses (for the record, I have immense respect for nurses. My spouse is one. But I take my child to see a DOCTOR, not the nurses), and want to know that you will be free to go elsewhere without the Dr getting offended and butthurt over your choice and responding with the professionalism of a teenager trying to be popular, do NOT go to Dr. Shalash.
