Dr. Amit Mahendra Patel, MD

My precious daughter was misdiagnosed for 24 hours, 12 of which were under Dr. Patel's care. He diagnosed constipation... resulting in two unnecessary enemas and 3 doses of Morphine!!! He would never listen to the lead nurse, whom was advocating with us, that it was her appendix. He stated "she doesn't have the classic symptoms" She was pointing where the pain was in her exact appendix area, she was crying in pain, and he would laugh and make jokes about "getting #2 out" and "poop emoji". She is 9 years old, and found no humor in his immaturity as she laid in the bed doubled over in pain. He was very immature and unprofessional and had absolutely no respect for parents or the nurse staff. Once his shift ended, she was immediately taken for an additional CT scan with contrast (we asked all day for this and he refused) and it was indeed her appendix, she had emergency surgery and her appendix was gangrenous. She suffered in his care, we suffered. We also have been hit with thousands… of dollars worth of unnecessary medical care bills. She should have had surgery ASAP, it would have been removed prior to becoming gangrenous, we would have been out of the hospital sooner, instead of 5 full days. She would not have had to fight such a severe infection. Dr. Patel came into the room the following day, again acting immature, stating he was "shocked" .He did apologize. However, we respectfully told him to listen to the parents. patients, and nurses. Dr. Patel will NEVER be the caretaker of my children again. And I hope this reviews prevents future patients from immature, unprofessional care given by Dr. Patel.
