Dr Amrita Kaur, DO

I met Dr. Kaur in March 2015 at the Mainland Hospital. I was discharged from Shore Memorial Hospital that evening but I was not feeling good. My Son brought me to Mainland. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with double pneumonia. The next morning I met Dr.Kaur,she was very polite and had good bedside manner. She initially told me that I had Bacterial and Viral Pneumonia. I was alarmed because I had something rare. Dr. Kaur was at my side in and out all day. You could see she was very concerned. She asked me if she can test me for some infectious diseases in the usa. I sign a permission affidavit. She came back to me later on that evening and told me that I was negative to the test. She was the only one taking care of me. I didn’t see nurses or any other Drs. She informed me of the IV medication I was getting and I was getting more. I did not have a temperature but I was very ill. I had something that no one could find. My kidneys began to slow down. My heart began to slow and my… Lungs were not sending oxygenated blood through the body. She kept checking my Petri dish to hopefully find what was causing this illness. After a week the hospital sent me home ill. Next morning the Nurse was at my door,one look at me she called the ambulance.I was sent back to mainland. I felt like I was being mistreated,I had Medicare but I noticed the woman from the office kept standing in front of my room. She made me feel like a thief. My son came to visit and the woman from the Office ask to speak with him. She ask my son would it be ok to put me in palliative care? My Son told her NO! I felt like I did not belong there any longer. They wanted me out. (The Hospital administration.) The disease was taking over and I still didn’t have a fever. I was sent back home again. Next morning Nurse arrived I had a temperature 101.5. I’m sent back to Mainland. This is the worst feeling of not being wanted because I had Medicare. I said to Dr. Kaur I felt like someone was going to get rid of me. It’s very bad to feel unwanted especially when your sick. You have Insurance but something else comes to my mind. She had a friend who was a Pulmonologist and asked him to come see me. His name was Salaam Alobeidy. He was a very quiet and humble Doctor. He knew what I had. He called my son and I was transferred to The Temple Lung Center in PA. The next morning. When He seen me he had blood work done. I had congestive Heart Failure my kidneys were failing and my Lungs shut down. I was diagnosed with CRYPTOGENIC Organized Pneumonia. That was the day my Life changed!

In speaking to staff for my very first appointment to address an ingrown toenail that was very painful, the staff said “you have no signs of infection so, there isn’t anything we can do for you.” They did nothing to address the ingrown toenail or address the cause of the pain I was in. I actually called my insurance to request a new referral to a different podiatrist. I was SO frustrated that they could not/would not help me. I decided to keep today’s follow up appointment. I’ll give them another chance, I thought. The way they spoke to me was very condescending. Having drs touch my feet terrifies me, but, I know I need my toe nails trimmed. It’s a very real fear based on lots of previous pain. They asked me questions like “are you diabetic?“ My response was “Clearly, you didn’t read my chart because all the information you’re asking me about is in my chart. Yes, I’m pre-diabetic.” So, in my opinion, their bedside manner is clearly lacking. However, their skill at doing… what needs to be done is very effective. Despite my fears, they were able to trim my toenails effectively. I’m on blood thinners and I have metal in my toes, which makes me a very difficult patient. However, that doesn’t change the fact that I need medical attention. I think the way they talk to patients is severely lacking in professionalism. I am grateful that their skill is effective in doing what needs to be done to keep my toes and toenails healthy. It’s unfortunate that they have no compassion or empathy when speaking to patients.

I took my dad and we both really enjoyed the perfessional office and staff. Made dad feel important. His first visit. Prior 2 years he went to someone else and never felt cared for. Thank you for all your kindness.
