Dr. Amy Jane Engebretson, MD

She is a wonderful Doctor

I started seeing her as my gyne retired for health reasons. She is young and is nice. She does listen but wants to tell you what to do rather than follow a prescribed plan of action designed by two other doctors. Quick to recommend surgery/hysterectomy when there really is no urgent medical reason for it other than history of ovarian cancer in two aunts.

Amy J Engebretson is by far the best OBGYN I have ever met. I was very disappointed when told that she had resigned from the clinic I was seeing her at. Im hoping to find her so that I can continue care with her.

Dr Engebretson cares about her patients well being. She takes the time to listen to you and she has good follow up. She is a young Dr who seems unsure of herself at times but in the end makes good medical decisions and always uses her partners expertise to bounce questions and concerns off of. I think she is a good Dr though and with some time and experience she will only become better and a great dr. There is one staff person at the front desk at the St Paul Office who has very limited compassion and caring about the patients. She could cause you to lose MANY patients.

I was 15 minutes late for my appointment and as a result, the doctor decided not to see me. I waited for 15-20 minutes in the waiting room filling out paperwork before the nurse called me into the exam room and told me that I would not be seen. The secretary gave me a parking voucher and asked if I wanted to reschedule, but I made an excuse and left. I have not/ will not attempt to get another appointment there. As the child of a very hardworking surgeon, I know first hand the grueling schedule that doctors keep, and I understand that things get backed up during the day. I'm sure that from a practical standpoint, not seeing me helped the doctor to catch up with her day, spend time with other patients and go home to her family on time. Those are all good things, but I feel that my circumstances were taken advantage of, that others benefited at my expense, and that I was punished for a series of events (parking confusion and then getting lost in the hospital complex)that I didn't… foresee. I understand that when patients are late it throws a wrench into the schedule. I know that it doesn't matter that I left with time to get there early or that I missed a class to make my appointment that day. But, apart from being a very frustrating situation, this was also an especially emotional experience for me, as I had scheduled this appoint due to troubling symptoms pointing to cancer, which I disclosed when I scheduled my visit. The best advice I can offer is that if you go to this doctor, pray nothing happens to make you late. If you're like me and new to city life, find a smaller, more personable practice to patronize instead. To Dr Engebretson, I advise you to make sure your secretaries tell your new patients as they schedule 1.) Where to park and how to find your office and 2.) That they wont be seen if they're late. It would have saved me a lot of time, stress and embarrassment.

I was very impressed with how much time she spent with me and how patiently she answered all questions and provided well-informed and sensible advice.
