Short version: Went to the appt with my girlfriend. Over all was treated poorly and my girlfriends thoughts and opinions were not respected. Dr. Loftus pressured my girlfriend into getting a Nexplanon implant claiming it was near painless and had almost no side effects. It in fact was an extremely painful procedure and was very traumatic for her due to the lack of warning and the expectation that it would be a much easier process. Long version: My girlfriend was honest from the beginning of the appointment that she (18) was experiencing abuse and was being forced by an abusive parent to get a birth control implant that she was very scared to get and scared to change her hormones do to ongoing health problems. Initially Dr. loftus’ student came in and heard the situation and was extremely understanding and comforting, providing helpful information about birth control and health but understanding that my girlfriend didn’t want to do this. Then Dr Loftus came in, heard the story, and… immediately chose to side with the abuser basically said it was sad but she needed to be put on a form of birth control despite the fact that neither of us are sexually active and there is no current risk of pregnancy do to our own choices. The initial claim was she needed to be on it due to her epilepsy, Next she discussed how it was the best option due to our ages, Then went on to the fact that she was running out of time and my girlfriend needed to sign the consent form. After being brought near to tears my girlfriend signed the consent form. Dr said it would be a small pinch from the needle and then she wouldn’t feel anything else. The needle was in fact very large and extremely painful and did not fully numb the area, the implant device also caused a lot of pain. My girlfriend was visibly in pain and crying from the start and the Dr continued without properly checking on the situation of caring. The Dr.s student was visibly disturbed by the appointment the moment Loftus started speaking and all through the procedure. Left the building with my traumatized and crying girlfriend that day. Unless you are ready to verbally spar with your doctor don’t use Dr Loftus. If you have a history of experiencing abuse definitely don’t.
