Dr. Amy Middleman, MD

Our experience with this doctor was extremely unsatisfactory and upsetting, especially for my daughter, who was only 12 at the time and seeking help for a relatively recent eating-related concern. From the beginning, the experience felt unprofessional and unsettling. My daughter was taken away from me immediately and placed alone in a dressing room with no explanation or instructions. She was told to put on a gown and to provide a urine sample, yet no one explained how to do this. She had never given a urine sample before and was confused and anxious, but staff did not allow me to assist her or even speak up to let them know she needed guidance. While she was struggling to understand what was expected of her, the staff waited in the hallway making comments and jokes about how long she was taking. By the time she returned to the exam room—where I had been waiting separately—she was visibly stressed and nearly in tears. No one explained why she had been separated from me or why these… procedures were happening. The doctor then took around 45 minutes to come into the room. When she finally did, she questioned my daughter rapidly and intensely about her eating habits, offering alarming scenarios of what might happen to her body if she continued these behaviors. It felt more like an interrogation than a supportive medical conversation. She then asked me to leave the room and continued questioning my daughter alone for another 20 minutes. Again, nothing was explained to me before, during, or after about why a 12-year-old needed to be interviewed without a parent present. My daughter described the entire appointment as uncomfortable, frightening, and overwhelming. It has taken me two years to write this review because the experience was so upsetting. I even reported it to our general care practitioner at the time, who was also very concerned. No child—or parent—should feel the way we felt. We were simply seeking guidance for a developing eating concern, and instead left feeling shaken and discouraged. Fortunately, my daughter is now healthy and no longer has an eating disorder. But looking back, I realize how detrimental that appointment could have been for her. I do not deny that this doctor is knowledgeable in her field, but in our experience she and her staff demonstrated a lack of compassion, communication, and professionalism when working with children. I hope this is not the case for others, but I wanted to share our experience for families considering care with this provider.

Amy middleman is very manipulative. I would do your research before sending your child who has an eating disorder to her. Her philosophy of treating young people with an eating disorder is you can gain weight and get better in a hospital and not in a specialized eating disorder hospital. She manipulates parents to believe their child is getting the help they need such as therapy when all they do is sit in a hallway and eat and then sit in bed. She uses food as punishment. If you don't do what she demands then she raises your food intake and tries to take your privileges knowing you won’t be able to finish. She has manipulated parents to the point where they are brain washed them. Like I said with experience please beware about bringing your children to this doctor.she wants these patients to become a cycle in her practice so she can continue collecting insurance money knowing she’s setting them up for FAILURE!

She shouldn’t have a license for eating disorders. She thinks she knows everything about you when she doesn’t. Never listens to you and your concerns. She is very blunt, she would work better with adults in a psych hospital, not a pediatric’s hospital. She is a terrible person. Don’t take your kids to her! Unless you want them to get PTSD.

She is the worst doctor I have ever seen. She is abusive, manipulative, unprofessional, and a world-class liar. I look forward to seeing her lose her license. She has hurt me, my family, other doctors at the hospital, and even gone as far as to disrespect my grandparents in public. Being smart on paper doesn't make you a good doctor and definitely no a good person.

Dr. Middleman is an experienced doc who really cares about her patients. The best part about her is that she spends all the time she needs listening to you. On the downside, the waits are sometimes a little long but the visits are worth it. As a first time patient, I wasn't prepared for how attentive she'd be, not something I'm used to with other doctors.

I really felt cared for at Dr. Middleman’s office. She is a busy doctor, but it shows why once you start receiving her care. She cares about you and tries to get you the resources you need! I really enjoyed seeing her!

Dr. M is a caring doc. She is always trying to help me, even when it is difficult to work through. I know I can trust her to do what is best for me. I recommend her to anyone who needs a great doc.

Dr. Middleman takes time with patients and addresses all of their concerns. She may run late, but she will then take the time you need when it is your turn. Great doc!

I have had horrific experiences with a number of doctors from being misdiagnosed, disregarded, overdrugged, and being the unfortunate victim of malpractice. I avoided seeking help for my mental illnesses for years because of this but it wasn't until I saw Dr. Middleman that I felt safe to express any concerns I had and that I was truly being taken care of. She is very thorough with diagnosis and cares about the patients overall well being in multiple areas besides just her psychiatry practice. She is quite knowledgable of all the medications and treatments that are available as she does much reading and studying and has even caught mistakes that my other doctors have made in medication. I wouldn't recommend anyone else.

Dr. Middleman is the best doctor I have ever had. She truly cares about her patients! She is very informative and friendly. The wait time may be long sometimes but is totally worth it because she is very attentive and addresses every issue you bring up in detail. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone.
