Amy O'connell, MD, PhD

Dr. Amy E. O’Connell, MD, PhD, is a physician-scientist in the Division of Newborn Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and an assistant professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. Board certified in pediatrics, allergy/immunology, and neonatal-perinatal medicine, she specializes in neonatal immunity, intestinal development, and diseases affecting premature infants, including necrotizing enterocolitis. Dr. O’Connell earned her medical and graduate degrees from Jefferson University and completed her pediatrics residency at the University of Vermont, followed by fellowship training in allergy/immunology and neonatal-perinatal medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. In addition to her clinical work, she leads the Neonatal Intestinal and Immune Center for Exploration (NiiCE), where her research focuses on immune development, intestinal biology, and rare pediatric diseases, with a strong commitment to advancing equitable, translational research and …compassionate, family-centered care.
