Dr. Amy C Phelan, MD

UT Southwestern is known for high quality care. I have had great relief with facet joint injections that lasted over six months. Dr. Amy Phelan is far far above average in skills, and I like that she has a Nurse Practitioner Rita who is excellent. I like that I have a diagnosis that can actually be seen as to why I need cervical neck injections. They are direct, they listen, take things one step at a time, and I was very comfortable in the OR. No treatment is perfect, and I find this team of people very skilled.

Dr. Phelan is an amazing physician.

I found it extremely easy to get an appt that worked around my sons days off school. Since I have to drive in for my spots from out of town. She has been able to work with my situation and bring me some relief. There was a time when I didn't think about the pain in my back. She has given me hope for a more normal life (unsedated) ! I am thankful to her and the staff at utsw. I would highly recommend her to anyone living wih back pain

I am getting billed so many times for the same date of a treatment. EX: I pay 75.00 on a 150.00 bill and the next statement shows I only paid 43.00. The doctor's office would not involve themselves with their patient's billing problem.They bill you but won't get involved if you need help.They must get a lot of complaints from the patients because they stop you in your tracks right away. Too Bad so sad so they say.Do not recommend this doctor either because they are only in it for the money. period..I went in good faith they were going to be honest in their treatment instead they milked me for everything I have. I needed help from them. Not just my back which hurts worse than it ever has but for the way they are costing me more than what I have already paid for. I understand the injections may not work yet they kept recommending more to be done and it never helped. After 4 injections plus the hospital use which is seperate by the way. You will get a bill for BOTH. I believe they should… have given the opportunity after the 2nd injection to see the referring doctor and THEN let him recommend what may need to be done. This doctor Phelan is not an honest doctor or it may be her nurse Rita Fulmer who makes the decision. For the rechecks I never saw Dr Phelan only the nurse Rita Fulmer. PLUS they charge for rechecks. Just make sure you can afford them and check all your options and get second opinions before your money goes down the drain..

Appointment was arranged by referal from another Doctor. Very prompt,very pleased, Accurate surgon. No complaint.

It was easy getting in to the cortosteroid shot procedure. I tod the staff many times I wa not going to be sedated. No one told each other until I was wheeled into the surgery room. All the nurses shouted NO DRUGS NO DRUGS and that was a problem.I have had THE Worst headaches 2 weeks after the procedure and a lot of pain. I called the nurse and she said go to the emergency room. I asked what can they do for me that Dr Phelan can't? They had no answer...Not sure if the shot will work.Had to spend half a day with icepacks on my neck and side of my head.Still have alot of neck pain and side hurts..

Dr. Phelan is a caring doctor who is empathetic to the pain experienced by her patients. She took time to listen to all my concerns. Treatment for me was limited to epidural shots and drugs. As a previous poster noted, scheduling follow-up visits in a timely manner is a big problem due to her busy schedule. I also experienced some frustration in getting a response from the office when I called in post-op -- as if the dr and office staff were out of synch on scheduling. As with all pain-management spine-related issues, it is difficult sometimes to get a straight answer to the exact cause of the problem.

I felt a sense of caring, interest and confidence as well as looking to areas not considered by numerous other specialists and physicians. I am hard to please but so far I am completely happy with her. It is, however, very difficult to get an appointment and timing from diagnositic testing to appointment to discuss the tests was 4 weeks. She must be very busy but she spent all the time I felt I needed when I finally did get to see her.
