Dr. An Yen, MD

I recently had MOH’s surgery performed by Dr. Yen. While Dr. Yen is a man of few words he is an excellent surgeon. Having cancer is a very scary time in ones life. The doctor was very kind, putting me at ease. I felt I was in great hands with Dr. Yen. The staff, and the P.A’s were professional and friendly.

I recently had MOH’s surgery done by Dr. Yen. I had a basal cell cancer on my chin. The staff there was so caring, making sure I understood the procedure and was at ease. Dr. Yen performed the surgery. He’s a man of few words, making sure I was pain free and comfortable. I really can’t say enough about Dr. Yen. Professional, great “bedside” manner, and attentive during a very scary situation.

I always appreciate reading the reviews before I select a doctor so I hope this helps at least one person make a more informed decision. I've been a patient of Dr. Yen for two mohs surgeries. The first mohs that I had done two years ago on a basal cell carcinoma on my forehead has reoccured. Mohs surgery is supposed to be 99% curable, so I'm not sure if he removed all of the cancer during surgery. I also had mohs surgery 6 weeks ago for another bcc on the left side of my forehead. If I could go back in time I would have sought a fellowship trained mohs surgeon instead of Dr. Yen. The whole experience was very traumatic and it took all day. They had me arrive at 8:00 am for surgery. Once I was in the surgery room I noticed that there were no sinks to wash your hands. So everyone just changes their gloves when they enter the room which isn't very sanitary. Dr. Yen comes in and has zero bedside manner and zero compassion. He starts injecting me with lidocane. But he's pretty… rough about it and doesn't pause at all. Shot after shot even if you're jumping out of your chair. During the procedure I could hear him snipping my skin which is unnerving. After he removed the first layer I was bandaged and sent to wait in the waiting room. It took about 1.5-2 hours to analyze it under a microscope. I was then called back and told they didn't get all of the cancer, he would need to take another layer. By then the lidocane had worn off and he had to completely numb me again. After another 1.5 hour wait the process was repeated and another layer was taken. He told me I wouldn't get the results until after lunch and to come back at 1:30. Arrived at 1:30 and was told he'd need to take another layer. I was numbed again with lidocain. The pain I was experiencing was very intense. He removed another layer and I was bandaged and sent to the waiting room again. I had to wait until 3:00 to hear that the margins were clear of cancer. I was numbed again and then he tried to close the wound. It was so large that my eyebrow was pulled upwards tightly. He told me I'd need to return in a week so he could do a skin graft. One week later I came back for the skin graft. 5 days later my wound became infected and I was prescribed a 10 day course of antiobiotics. When I returned to get half of my stitches out a technician that seemed really new was assigned to remove my stitches. Another tech told her which stitches to remove and then left the room. She was confused so she went to find her to ask her again. With her gloves on she touched the door handle, walked into the hallway, asked the tech again, back into the room touching the door again with her gloves on. She was about to remove more stitches when I asked her to change her gloves. No wonder why my wound got infected! The more knowledgable tech came back and told her she removed too many of them. Great.... I came back one week later for the rest of the external stitches to be removed. A week later I noticed some external stitches popping out and went back to have Dr. Yen remove them. My wound still wasn't healing right. Dr. Yen pulled down the bandaide and told the technician not to remove them because they were holding my whole wound together. If they were removed then my wound would open back up. It had been 5 weeks since the initial mohs surgery. There was no future plan to come back to remove them. I had questions for him but he was literally standing in the doorway with one foot out the door and couldn't be bothered. I had no idea what I was supposed to do. Leave the stitches in? For how long? I was supposed to go back a week later to get mohs done on the spot that reoccured. I had this terrible feeling like I couldn't trust Dr. Yen anymore. The next day I found a mohs fellowship trained dermatologist and went to her for a second opinion. She took one look at my wound and said that the stitches needed to be removed or it would never heal. She removed the stitches that Dr. Yen told me shouldn't be removed and I was terrified. Finally my wound started to heal. If I would have followed his instructions then the wound would still be a mess. I was compelled to write this review because I had mohs surgery today but with a mohs fellowship trained dermatologist. Instead of it taking 1.5-2.5 hours to analyze the cancer under the microscope, it took 30 minutes for each layer. It was a much better experience compared to Dr. Yen. If you are considering using Dr. Yen for your mohs surgery, please reconsider. Please do a quick google search of mohs surgeons that are fellowship trained and go to them instead.

My friend went to his office for treatment of sarcoidosis. As a result of the wrong medication my friend will forever be disfigured he unfortunately is now unavailable porch post treatment .

Dr. Yen is the best dermatologist and plastic surgeon. I wish that all doctors were as great.

Dr. Yen is not only friendly but also very talented in all forms of skin cancer. He checks and double checks to be certain before doing the job. He is clean, prompt, and his staff is very accommodating. If need be he is able and willing to work with your schedule. Good man and good Doctor. I would recommend Dr. Yen to all my family as well as yours.

Dr. Yen doesn't tell you to buy a bunch stuff that doesnt work. he is direct and to the point. Not many doctors like this left.

I went to this doc to have him look at my skin problems. I didnt wait very long in the reception. The staff was so nice. Waited a very short time before seeing dr. yen. He took the time to answer all my questions. And most importantly none of that unnecessary procedure. Would definitely recommend him.

I decided to make an appt with dr yen after doing some research online. His reviews were good so i made an appt. I didnt wait very long and the staff was very friendly. dr yen helped to answer all my questions. im happy with the results and would recommend this dr.

The doctor was very short and dismissive with me. He didnt help me in the slightest. He didnt even ask me any of my symptoms before he told me (within 3 or 4 minutes of being in the room) that it was nothing. RUDE! I suggest taking your business elsewhere.
