Dr. Askanase treated me for undifferentiated connective tissue disease for a year. This was my first diagnosis, and she put me on Plaquenil right away. A year later, my arthritis was better, but I was still in significant pain. She prescribed 2 NSAIDs (somehow overlooking the fact that I was taking both at the same time, even though I clarified this point with her--twice) and eventually suggested I try a new drug that might put me into remission. After a few minutes, I realized she was describing Plaquenil--the drug I'd been on for a year already. I made an appointment with a new rheumatologist at HSS, received a diagnosis of RA , and started Humira about 15 months since the onset of my arthritis. I now feel much better than I did when I was just taking the Plaquenil alone, and I have lowered my Plaquenil dose significantly. I have a much more ambitious exercise routine and fewer flares. I've also been taking stomach medications for the past 5 months because an endoscopy showed… significant irritation from all the NSAIDs I was taking before my arthritis was managed properly. In my case, finding the right doctor was completely life-changing. Dr. Askanase never seemed very interested in my case, and I think her inattention led to months of unnecessary suffering on my part. I would not recommend this doctor--at the very least, you should expect your physician to keep track of what prescriptions they've prescribed to you. I also felt like my concerns were never fully addressed during appointments, and Dr. Askanase gave the impression that your questions were inconvenient for her.

I've been working with Dr. Askanase for about 6 years. I actually started seeing her while she was at NYU and made it my business to move with her to NYP. She is extremely respectful and down to earth - with her clients - accessible, honest, direct, and caring. She's always been very open with me in terms of my diagnosis, prognosis, etc and makes sure that I have the information needed to make good medical decisions. Since the beginning of our work together, I have always felt safe in (and confident about) her care. Additionally, she goes the extra mile to provide referrals to emotional and social support services. Over the years, I've had a number of really negative experiences with other doctors / medical teams - Dr. Askanase was the first specialist who made me feel really respected and empowered to face my health challenges head on. And when you're living with a chronic illness, that alone makes a massive difference in terms of one's ability to live well. My only critique is… that she's often dealing with a number of things at once, sometimes has to step out of the room to deal with other situations, and can sometimes come across as a bit rushed. But I think it speaks very highly of her that, in spite of this, she has always provided me with an excellent level of care.

over the course of a month I have called the office five times and emailed twice. No one has ever responded to me, and I still don't have my test results.

I love dr Askanase! I have been through 10 doctors and she is the only one who has really helped me! She is thoughtful, kind, funny, and direct. I would recommend her to my best friend.

From the moment she examined me, she didn't hesitate to diagnose my condition and she was right on point. I had seen many Rheumatologist but not one as carrying and understanding as Dr. Askanase. I have been with her for many years and it's like seeing a close family friend. I would definitely recommend her to anyone, I even brought in my daughter and again she was direct and to the point with her condition. I wish her much success and I would follow her to any location.

Dr. Askanase is a good natured who puts patients feelings first. she also has a great sense of humor which helps with such a horrible disease

I can't find anything negative to say about Dr. Askanase. She has been an answer to my prayers. After 7 years and 5 doctors I finally received a diagnosis! Sometimes the wait is long, but I don't mind. She listens and cares-she is a great doctor.

It was the worst experience a patient could have.
