Dr. Andrea Pitts, MD

Dr. Andrea R. Pitts knew she wanted to go into medicine from an early age. Her first memory of this dream was around age six. She always had a strong desire to help people. In high school, her father had surgery and needed at-home wound care. While others in the family were hesitant, she was proud to step in and help-something that confirmed her interest in a medical career. Dr. Pitts started medical school with plans to become a pediatrician, but soon realized she enjoyed many areas of medicine. This led her to a family medicine residency, where she discovered a strong connection to sports medicine. As a lifelong athlete herself, she was drawn to the idea of using movement and exercise to help people heal. After completing her family medicine residency, she followed her passion by completing a fellowship in non-operative orthopedics and sports medicine. Today, she works at AnMed Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Anderson, South Carolina, where she treats patients with joint pain, …manages fractures and offers advanced non-surgical care for osteoarthritis. Dr. Pitts works with patients of all ages and activity levels. She has a special interest in injury prevention and rehabilitation for athletes-from beginners to professionals. When possible, she sees athletes during their training season to guide their exercise plans and help prevent injuries. She also specializes in ultrasound-guided injection therapy, which she uses to diagnose and treat many joint and soft tissue conditions. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Pitts serves as the medical director and head team physician for Anderson University athletics. She is also assistant director of the AnMed Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program and has received national research awards from the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
