Dr. Andrei Igor Holodny, MD

I am a clinical and research neuroradiologist with a special interest in advanced MRI of brain tumors. As Chief of the Neuroradiology Service I oversee the clinical imaging as well as research of the brain, spine, and neck. The main research focus of the Functional MRI Laboratory, which I direct, is pre-operative planning for patients with brain tumors. We use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and diffusion MRI to identify important areas of the brain, such as those that control language or motor function, in patients with brain tumors. The ability to pre-operatively and intra-operatively identify these vital areas allows a neurosurgeon or radiation therapist to operate on or treat only the tumor, thereby avoiding the important surrounding brain tissue. I also am the founding President of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology and have served as President of the Eastern Neuroradiological Society. I am a member of MSKCC's Brain Tumor Center. I am on the editorial …board of the American Journal of Neuroradiology and hold an honorary doctorate from the Russian Academy of Medical Science.
