Dr. Andrew S Chao, MD

Horrible. I have never experienced someone so uncaring and rude as Dr. Andrew Chao. He was threatening and did not take any of my concerns seriously. His bedside manner is worse than a rabid dog’s.

If you want to know if someone is a good doctor, talk to the people they work with. Everyone I met at Kaiser Sacramento sings Chao's praises to the rafters, from the nursing staff to the other GI doctors. My experiences as a patient confirms their high esteem. He's thoughtful, detailed, professional, and he listens carefully to your concerns.

From the moment I met him I knew he was not going to get me the answers I needed. I was suffering from abnormal and severe stomach pains that lasted for days on and off for 3 years. I explained that I was unable to move and would throw up profusely through the night. I told him what kind of foods triggered it and he brushed me off and told me it sounded like I had heart burn. Heart burn?! Are you joking? I wouldn’t take myself to the ER for some heart burn I’d shove a bottle of Tums down my throat and deal with it. I cancelled all further appointments with him because he made me uncomfortable and seemed like he couldn’t wait to leave the room. Last week I messaged him again while I was having my pains and explained that hot showers are the only thing that temporarily helped with the pain. He advised I stop smoking weed. I don’t even smoke weed? Then he turned the reply option off in the messages. I ended up in the ER with gall stones, an inflamed gall bladder and had emergency surgery… to get my gall bladder removed. No thanks to Dr. Chao!! Next!

Horrible. Uses intimidation and semi-threats to bully patient into submission. No discussion but barked orders. No consideration for patient's needs or feelings. Does not care about causing pain by rushing through procedure. Reacts annoyed when patient voices feeling pain. Never again!
