Dr. Andrew Howard Erlich, DO

I was seen in the urgent care area of Beaumont hospital by Dr. Andrew Erlich for a rash which I am almost positive came from bug bites. I was told it was not bugs since I didn’t see them or feel them bite me. I was told that it was most likely poison ivy, even though I do not have any of those plants in my yard. The doctor told me I could get a steroid and a Benadryl shot but the Benadryl shot was dependent on the fact that I had a ride home. Because I did not have a personal acquaintance that could come pick me up I was going to call an Uber or a lift so I could get proper treatment at the hospital. The doctor informed me that I would not be able to use Uber or a lift because it was not sufficient to him and that in his past opinion and experience Uber and lift drivers do not help you get inside the house. I asked the doctor if this was hospital policy or his own opinion and he told me that he’s the boss and he makes the rules. I then spoke with the nurse and asked her regarding… hospital policy and she was unable to give me any information. I called the patient care experience department and was informed that the hospital uses Uber and Lyft to send patients home all of the time. The decision made by Dr. Andrew Erlich Was unfair and was based off of his own personal judgment not medical guidelines. Something else that disappointed me and also surprised me was that the doctor told me due to my long fingernails that I probably hadn’t washed off all the oils from the poison ivy and I was spreading it around my body myself. This insinuates that I have been unsanitary for the past four days which is everything but true. The amount of discomfort I have felt from my rashes Is unbelievable and all I wanted was treatment properly and in a just fair manner. I will be following up with the patient experience him at the hospital and I hope no other patient has to experience the biased opinions of this doctor and have it affect their treatment.
