Dr. Andrew Dunlap Gill, MD

This is a rating for his work at Heywood Hospital as part of the dog and pony show known as the Gill brothers! I was admitted to Heywood on a weekend and Dr Andrew Gill was listed as my psychiatrist, I NEVER MET HIM AND HE PRESCRIBED MEDS TO ME, which I refused to take! I saw him walking about the unit but he never bothered to speak with me! It is absolutely unethical to prescribe sight unseen when I was on a locked unit and even more unconscionable to bill my insurance hundreds of dollars for it! Could he not find his way out of his glass cage to actually talk to me?? It's the Gill family racket at Heywood! Neither Of the Dr Gills should be practicing anymore!

Do not go to this "doctor". He should not be in practice. Last time he read something related to the field was 1976. Total quack; irresponsible and incompetent. Beware,this doctor is dangerously unprofessional.

I am a depressed college professor of biology who also has taught and coached in public high school. My PH.D. is in biology with a concentration in animal behavior. I have received numerous teaching awards at both public school and college levels. I consider it a privilege to be treated by Dr. Gill. I drive 2 hours from Cape Cod each way to be treated by Dr. Gill and would drive double the distance. As a very successful (but severely depressed) biologist teaching college courses in brain function relating to behavior I find Dr. Gill absolutely cutting-edge in his explanations of the neurological activities of new drugs. He is a central acting psychiatrist at McLean Hospital (where I met him) which is ranked #3 out of 5,200 hospitals by US News & World Report.I also teach numerous undergraduate Pre-medical students and am aware of the vitriol with which a single, anonymous person filling out an evaluation can ruthlessly attack a professor. I am incredulous at the nastiness and… inaccuracy of the first evaluation of Dr. Gill but am not surprised by it based on my own experience. If you prefer the traditional, arrogant, ego-centric stereotype of traditional physicians then feel free to believe anything in the first evaluation. If you instead want to be treated by a competent, caring, brilliant practitioner then try to see Dr. Gill. You unfortunately most likely wont get an appointment because he can only treat so many patients given his style, expertise and professionalism.

This man, I refrain from using term "doctor", is so out of it. He doesn't have a clue how to treat psychiatric illnesses. He has not read or published anything since the 1970's. His license should be revoked. He is ill informed and totally unprofessional. He himself needs serious counseling. If anyone is considering going to him -stop, there are plenty of doctors who understand their profession and will not harm you .

For the past fourteen or fifteen years, I have been a patient of Dr. Andrew Gill. During that time my my need of his help and care has ranged from critical with my life at immediate risk to a kind of "wellness" check in. He has followed my progress and regress with skill and patience, always able to handle whatever situation I am in, and never making me feel disrespected or lost to a lifetime of mental and emotional disability. My problems at times have been complex, including an unusual diagnosis coupled with a more common but potentially lethal diagnosis. He has seen me through it all, and continues to do so without crippling me with medication or stigmatizing attitudes. He pays careful attention to the medications he prescribes for me, and he always checks side affects and drug interactions, including with my other medications prescribed by other doctors, when ordering a new medication. Perhaps most importantly, he demonstrates consistently in his kind manner, his active… listening and thoughtful questions, his caring comments and thoughtful insights that this is a doctor and specialist who really does respect and care deeply about his patients as human beings.
