Dr. Andrew William Gurman, MD

From 1995 through 2013 Dr. Gurman has performed 5 procedures on my hands..carpal tunnel surgery on both hands and three injury repairs due to my propensity for injuring my left hand. I always appreciated his willingness to let me observe the procedures and to explain what was being done. Some time after my last surgery I was having some difficulty with my left hand and went to see him. He treated me for what we thought was happening with instructions to keep him informed of any problems. He called on a Friday to check on my situation, noting that he would be leaving town on Sunday for a while but to call his office if I had a problem. When I was done with the medication, the problem recurred and I called his service on Sunday and was informed he was on an airplane and would be in touch when he landed. Around 8 pm on that Sunday evening he phoned me from an airport in Chicago to touch base and to let me know his staff would be in touch the next morning with a referral to a… rheumatologist. Not many doctors would do that. Always gave excellent care and had a high level of expertise. If I am ever careless enough to injure my hands again, he is the one I would call even though I now live more than 100 miles from Altoona.

too short tempered and in a rush needs to retire not the doctor he use to be doesn't address the problem and doesn't fix it either just because of what it is and type of injury

I have been a trauma/critical care nurse for 32 years. Dr Gurman is an experienced, well-trained and nationally recognized surgeon. I feel confident in his abilities and will continue to see him for care of my health issues involving my hands and wrists even though I must drive well over an hour each way to see him.
