Dr. Andrew John Haig, MD

Dr. Haig appears unstable. Concerned he lacks compassion and is using his position to hurt rather than do no harm. He asks questions, then cuts off the patient and tells them that's not the right answer. Then, draws conclusions which are dubious. This is very concerning. Went there for a B6 toxicity. Left with concerns about his mental health.

Stay away from this Dr Haig he is Disrespectful, arrogant, does not listen to patient concern. Refuses to look at other experts opinion. Insulting judgmental comments. His lack of compassion or empathy was shocking. If you want to be heard and respected by you Dr stay away from Dr haig and his harmful behavior.

The office staff was kind, the waiting time was reasonable. However, as for Dr. Haig is dismissive, arrogant does not look at your full medical history before making a blanket diagnosis. Dismisses your concern and insinuates you have a mental health issue. Stay away from this Dr.

If I could leave no star I would. Dr Haig is arrogant and doesn’t listen. When he wrote up his report for his opinion, he started it by addressing it to a Dr. that I never heard of thanking him for the referral that never happened. He insinuated that everything thing I said I had done included the surgeries weren’t real that there was no visible scarring. He didn’t listen to me at all and stated I have a mental health problem. This came about after he didn’t agree to a surgery that two surgeons said I needed. His response time about the two surgeons was that they don’t know anything. I believe that he wrote up his report to keep insurance companies from approving it. I had only went to see him after being pushed as I already had figured out that I’d never get that surgery. He had initially agreed that I had the problem in the office then changed once I said that the insurance wouldn’t cover, at that point he got angry stating that that surgery doesn’t work, it would make my pain… worse and was a waste of money. There are so many inconsistencies in his report that I can prove as well as him sending it to wherever as I can’t find the person he thanked for the non existent referral . He also left medical papers on the counter in the exam room which I realized when he went looking through the pile for my papers. Very unprofessional. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go to him.

I have read these other reviews and I feel like some of these other patients are misunderstanding Dr. Haig's specific ways of learning your health history. He is upfront- but honest and explains everything very well! I think if you go in with an open mind and trust his process, you will be pleased with him. I have tried a ton of other doctors for full body chronic pain for 3 decades without very many answers. He suspected I needed to see rheumatology and sure enough, it is a genetic connective tissue disorder. Without him seeing the signs I may have never received this diagnosis. Now at least I have a direction to go in and it is thanks to Dr. Haig. I also find him very friendly and always happy to see me. I genuinely believe he is a great doctor in a sea of not so many great doctors these days and that is why I give him 5 stars.

I was first treated by Dr. Haig in 1994. He told me there were no magic pills that would cure the damage I had done to my spinal cord. Over the next 5 years, through a conservative medication regimen, lots of physical therapy followed by 30 to 40 minutes of exercises 5 days a week, I managed to recover a fairly good quality of life. He did not tell me what I wanted to hear but rather told me what I needed to hear - that my recovery was going to effort on my part. I appreciated his honesty then as I do yet today.

It is hurtful to see some horrible comments persist for years on this site. While I am not allowed by HIPPA privacy law to comment on those who have done this I hope readers will understand that chronic pain sometimes comes with addiction and severe mental illness. These critiques contrast with my many national awards for patient care including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation’s prestigious Outstanding Clinician award. Ask your doctor or another Rehab physician for a better perspective. —Andy Haig

This physician is arrogant, disrespectful, and totally lacking in care and compassion. Not only does he keep the patient waiting for a ridiculous length of time, but his language and attitude are beyond insulting. He cannot make an accurate diagnosis to save his life. Treats the patient's questions and concerns with an air of disdain and contempt. WHY DOES THIS MAN CONTINUE TO WORK AT THE UM? A malpractice waiting to happen.

I have to wonder what makes a person so cold hearted. Why a person who does not care for the well-being of others would choose to be a doctor is beyond me. Dr. Haig is rude, arrogent and disrespectful. Based on my experience with Dr. Haig of the Spine Program I recommend avoiding the U of M if you are looking for help with back problems.

I had no problem scheduling and appointment and I found the staff at this facility to be very courteous. As for Dr. Haig...I found him to be arrogant. Not only was it evident that he had not read my medical history, but the report that he wrote up contained several significant errors. I will not continue as his patient.
