He talked to fast and when asked questions about tests that may be needed he manipulated the outcome by saying only on admission they could be done. Downplayed a recommended blood test for condition

Rude, threatening, refused to make me aware of a serious diagnosis

Dr. Houseman was the attending physician in the ER at Deaconess Gateway Hospital the night my 9 year old son was bit by our West Highland Terrier on the face. While it is a small dog, it did major damage. My son is an awesome kid, excellent student, very good athlete & very kind. Not to mention very cute. To elaborate on our experience with this physician, I can say that he was inexperienced & unprofessional. The staff with some exclusions were more excited about getting their pizza than treating my child. Sad, but true ... My son was bleeding badly from the head and my husband used some loud & colorful language because no one moved with a sense of urgency. Then Dr. Housman nor the charge nurse would allow me back in the room to be with my son. I respected the authority & had several opportunities to go beyond the double doors, but did not break the rules. I cried from the unknown. After two hours, and a good doctor from Tri-state ear nose & throat allowed me to go back and… discuss the treatment options. He was an excellent example of how doctors should be in a serious situation. He recommended that we go to Indy, St. Louis, Louisville or Nashville for the plastic surgery. He was the only one that administered an antibiotic and bandage after two hours of waiting with Dr. Housman (the bad doctor). We then drove to Riley in Indy that same night. Within 5 minutes of being at Riley, my son received more attention and treatment than in two hours at Deaconess Gateway. My son will be having facial reconstructive surgery on Tuesday, by a team of plastic surgeons at Riley. We are praying for the best. On a side note, my husbands father is a heart surgeon & mother a nurse. My husband & I both have college degrees & have been successful in our careers. My advice is the following: Should you or a loved one experience a major health issue, bypass Deaconess Gateway & go straight to St. Mary's or Deaconess downtown. Anyone, would be better than Dr. Housman or his team of lazy inconsiderate nurses that were on Thanksgiving night. I also pray that I can forgive them eventually. It will be hard.
