Dr. Andrew Martin, MD

I went to Dr. Martin after extensive research on an endocrinologist who would be willing to prescribe Armour. Before putting me on it, Dr. Andrew wanted me to try 2 months of the name brand of synthroid. I received papers regarding when to have my blood tested, that had 2 different dates on them. I called the nursing staff to clarify the dates and they called me back TWO AND HALF WEEKS LATER and left a message on my machine without the answer I needed. Some to the effect of "the date is on the paper". My return visit 8 weeks later was a disaster. I was in very bad shape-shaking, flushed, and thought I had the flu rather than a sinus infection i was being treated for by another doctor, I could feel that I had a fever. They took my temp and said no fever. Dr. Martin asked me about what meds I was on for my sinus infection. Then examined and said my heart was racing and so he was going to decrease the synthroid and STILL not put me on Armor. I had to decrease by taking the same… dosage 6 out of 7 days for EIGHT WEEKS, then go have have labs. Based on the results and through an agreed telephone consult, he would decide on the dosage I would have to stay on for another SIX WEEKS. So IF all went according to plans an entire 5 months of my life (while raising a son with autism) without trying the Armour that I wanted to try. However, things did NOT go as planned. First, I drive the 1 hour and 10 minutes home (one way) and took my temperature. 103.5. I called my regular doctor thinking again it was the flu. He took my blood pressure, and took one look at me and said it was a severe reaction to an antibiotic he had prescribed for the sinus infection, and that if I had waited one more day, my skin would have started to erupt and I would have needed to be hospitalized for shock. While Dr. Martin did not prescribe the meds, I told him what it was and he IS a physician who saw the shape I was in-flushed beet red, etc. But attributed my racing heart to the thyroid meds. The next issue: I had my labs done at 8 weeks. I waited a week to hear the results, with my current med supply dwindling. I called after one weeks. NO RETURN CALL. I called after two weeks. NO RETURN CALL. Each time I stressed that I had 14 pills left, 7 pills left, etc. Finally at the 2 1/2 week mark, I called and left a message that I had only 3 days of pills left and asked that they fax the lab results to my regular doctor so HE could call in a new prescription before I ran out. The staff there STILL never returned my phone call but instead faxed my results to the general doctor WITH A NOTE ON IT STATING something to the effect of "results are being faxed because patient didn't want to wait to get them from our office". The office staff was very surprised at the tone and unprofessional way that was handled. To this day I've never been called back by the staff. The only call I've received is a reminder of the appt that was supposed to occur 6 weeks after the phone consult which ALSO never happened. I can't express how disappointed I am in how this whole issue was handled. I will say that iN PERSON Dr. Martin was very pleasant and seemed quite knowledgeable. The nurses also were great IN PERSON. But the after care is not only inappropriate, it is inexcusable. Also, I want to mention that the wait time for my first appt was approximately 1 hour - after having to wait almost 3 months to get an appt. The wait time for my 2nd appt was TWO AND HALF HOURS.

He's very accurate with his diagnosis. Compassionate and a good listener. He knows his stuff!

I have been seeing Dr. Martin for 13 years. I have thyroid problems. He is the smartest Dr I have ever been to. He is kind of dry (personality) but super smart. He will answer any questions you have and spends just the right amount of time with you. The office staff is pretty good too.
