Dr Andrew F. Mester, MD

I suffered from sinus pain for five months. I was given antibiotics but the pain never went away. My first visit with Dr Andrew Mester was very assuring that he would help me get better. He did a nasal culture prior to prescribing a medication. Sure enough, I was healed in one week. I greatly appreciate Dr Mester for his knowledge & years of experience. Mrs. J. Kevorkian

Just went for my second nasal/throat endoscopy and the treatment he suggested got rid of my nasal polyp! He is the sweetest, warmest doctor I have ever had. I am usually very anxious to go to the doctor, but he makes everything so simple and comfortable. I highly recommend Dr. Mester and will go to him with any future issues I have.

For a first time meeting, Dr. Mester put me at ease right away and asked all the questions he needed to know and immediately numbed my throat for observation, which was exactly why I set up the appointment. At the conclusion he stated. "no cancer" which was music to my ears... I have GERD which I was told about two years before but never wanted to believe it for some reason? I came to Sansum Clinic because this clinic was the first to find my husbands cancer of the thorax and because I live near Fresno , there was no ENT available for appt. before about 3 months. I called Sansum and they booked me the following week, without a doctors referral. This place is fantastic and their physicians and staff are top notch. Dr. Mester also took a sample from my nose and said he would call me with findings. Actually, got a call from my pharmacy stating Dr. called them with Rx and instructed pharmacy to be sure and notify me because he did not have my phone number. Really happy to have… had such a good experience and felt a personal concern and not that I was just another number.

Dr Mester is an excellent physician that does not sugar coat the truth. He found the tumor in my husbands throat and immediately arranged for surgery for him at UCLA. He is known by the surgeons that have the best skills in removing cancer. My husband required a full laryngectomy. He had to do 30 rounds of radiation. He came through just fine because Dr Mester spent extra time communicating with the surgeon and made all the arrangements for us to be taken care of when we arrived at UCLA. If you want a good doctor that gets to the point, he’s one of the best!

He saw my wife after the formal closing time. He was attentive, professional, and quickly--and correctly--diagnosed her problem. He showed her a set of procedures to reduce the crystal blockage in her ear. Excellent visit. He was the same when my wife went for a follow-up.

I did not see the doctor until 20 min after my appointment. He came in and number my nose and said he would be back in two minutes then came back in 15. He then kept pushing my shoulder to put me in position eventhough I had a big sling on and explained that I had just had shoulder surgery. He then tells me I have acid reflux and tells me to lose weight. I explained I had been training before my surgery but have been out of commission for 3 months for 3 months hence the weight gain. He blew me off, didn't care and said he's not there to dictate anyone's weight but to lose some. He is highly insensitive and has a poor bedside manner.

Follow up: I went to Dr Mester yesterday bc I'm a singer and he works with opera singers. Apparently I have acid reflux and need to make changes. But my review of Mester is this: he's arrogant, doesn't have much of a kind bedside manner. He was rough putting the camera in my nose. And wasn't patient. And He didn't know musical theatre is a genre of singing (how he doesn't know is is beyond me--I had to tell him about Broadway singers 2x). In addition to his ignorance of the above, when he prescribed ranitidine to me, I said I had experience taking that as an antihistamine. He then curtly says, Ranitidine isn't an antihistamine. Not impressed with is knowledge of prescriptions either. It was developed as an antihistamine and the properties that make it good for acid reduction as those exact properties. Also, after he told what was wrong, he flew out of the exam room to go home for the day. Didn't ask me if I had any question. I'm left with some lingering concerns. I'll try… to call the office and ask a nurse.

Dr. Mester understand my sinus needs. When I am so ill and hopeless, he has just the right recipe to heal my pain. I so appreciate how quickly I get in and Dr. Mester is available after 5 PM as well. Thank you Dr. Mester for all you have done to improve my quality of life.

I think the reason some other commenters have rated Dr. Mester poorly is that he has a bit of a stiff bedside manner. He has an Eastern European accent and might be difficult to understand. Neither of these things concern me, he is an excellent doctor, brilliant. Some people would rather have their hand held and be given a sweet smile regardless of the capability of the doctor. If I had to choose, I would take a skilled physician over a sugary one any day.

Omg, I was warned about this doctors beside manner, and figured it couldn't be that bad right, he is employed by Sansum clinic. But wow, I waited over an hours, granted I was 15 mins early but still. Then when I complained about it to him when he came in he snapped at me and said, "well you were late." I corrected him, and he looked in my file and then apologized because I was right. The was rude when I tried to ask questions. He said it wouldn't hurt when he put that tube thing in my nose, but when I had tried to ask if it might be hurt or be sore later he said, "I just told you it wouldn't hurt," cutting me off mid sentence. Also, when I tried to get some info about possible surgeries I've read about, he said he hasn't look in my nose yet so can't tell me anything. I just wanted to hear about possible surgeries, as I've been suffering from allergies/sinus infections and headaches for about 9 or 10 years now, and I'm just very tired of it already. Anyhow, as I was warned, he said I… have acid reflux and recommended something for that and to not eat or drink anything an hour before bed. Also he recommended Flonase, which I tried to tell him I've been prescribed before but using it more than two weeks always causes a sinus infection so I stopped using it years ago. He wouldn't hear it. He walked me to out and I asked him what about any surgeries, and he said if your finger is swollen you don't cut it off you treat it. Well, I'd like to make that decision, and at this point, I'd rather cut it off! Anyhow, very rude, and predictable diagnosis. oh he did recommend an allergy test be done.
