Dr. Andrew W Murphy, MD

First visit to Dr. Murphy at his West Grove office he appeared to be in a bad mood (everyone has bad days). Second visit to the same office they had no record of me. Was there for a skin scratch test. Test was done and Dr. Murphy wanted me to have some lab work done. Had the lab work done, results came in so my wife made an appointment for me to find out what the doctors findings were. Third time to the West Grove office and was told they did not have me on their appointment list and had none of my records. I really feel that the doctors office staff needs to be looked at. Attempted to blame my wife in the scheduling of the appointment, wrong office. I live in the West Grove area and know that he is there only on Thursdays. Will be looking for another allergist.

Visited Dr. Murphy About Adult-Onset Allergies. A+

I fully agree with the comment above about Dr. Murphy seeming to be interested in prescribing Epi-pens and collecting money. I brought my son for the second time to get a new Epi script and to test for two new foods since new reactions are present. Dr Murphy hardly looked at me or my son, mumbled the entire time (I had to ask him to repeat what he said so many times it got uncomfortable!) and he rushed us out of the office. He was on his computer quickly typing out answers to his rushed questions and that was it. I asked about the test, and he said, in the rudest way, “No, we don’t do that on this appointment. You have to make another appointment for that.” This is one of the reasons I made the appointment... for the testing! Clearly, by forcing us to come back, he can bill for more money. First time I ever felt cheated by a doctor. He did write in the Epi script that my son was allergic to those two new foods (causing confusion with the school nurse when I say “maybe he has an… allergy...!”). Horrible experience!

My child went to Dr. Murphy for years with an allergy to one specific food. Dr. Murphy performed skin testing which highlighted a reaction to many other foods. I had researched this and asked about component blood testing, but Dr. Murphy said this is not necessary and will just confirm what skin test shows. He issued an epipen, told us to avoid many foods, and told us to come back every 6 months. We did this for many years. About 10 years later we went to another allergist who questioned why blood testing was never performed, and we did that. We were promptly informed that most of the foods we were told to avoid posed no risk and my child passed food challenges for most. Under Dr. Murphy's advice my child lived in fear of foods for many years when a simple blood test followed by a food challenge showed this was completely incorrect. As for the 2 foods where there was a true allergy, with another doctor my child completed treatment in 6 months and passed a food challenge and now… can eat with no restrictions. Conclusion: Dr. Murphy does incomplete testing and does not provide patients with full range of options. I really think he prefers the business model of repeat visits and epipen prescriptions which is probably more profitable...but that is only my opinion. Avoid Dr. Murphy and seek care from a doctor that will work to educate you on the full range of treatment options!

The doctor gave me the impression that he did not want to be in the office that day. He was rude and insensitive.

Outstanding Doctor, extremely knowledgeable and very very through

The office staff is incredibly nice, friendly and helpful. I arrived early, filled out paperwork and was seen 15 minutes before my scheduled visit. However, Dr. Murphy was less than impressive. He didn't have an answer to my situation so he said he would think about it over the weekend and call me the following week. It's been a month and a half now and I've had no call. I honestly knew as I left his office that day that he wasn't going to call. He did, however, bill my insurance company right away. $210...such a waste of time and money. And I received a bill for the coinsurance amount less than 2 weeks after the appointment. My advice, find another doctor. This guy isn't worth your time or money.

I feel exploited by Dr. Murphy and his office staff. I am suffering with severe autoimmune disorder and flare up. I had called many doctors before contacting his office, asking each one if the doctor was knowledgable and treated autoimmune disorders. They told me explicitly "yes," and made me an appointment for that same morning. That should have been a warning sign. They rushed me through check in, taking my copay of course, after which the doctor came in with his papers, asked about 15 very quick questions, told me that he couldn't help me, and I was promptly dismissed. I truly feel violated by this office. Maybe he's okay with kids allergy shots: I saw many there. But anything else, DON'T GO.

I moved to PA and looked for a good immunologist. He was recommended by many people. He and his partner are excellent MD's.
