Dr. Andrew Michael Reff, DDS

This is information I would have liked before I went to this office, so I am sharing it with you. Dr. Reff has some of the most unprofessional staff I have ever encountered, who actively prevented me from getting the treatment I needed. The full story is below if you have time. I was referred to Dr. Reff while in the process of a very difficult root canal. On the day of the consultation I was so sick that I had to load myself up with medication so that I could get out of bed to go to my appointment, and so I wouldn’t be coughing and sneezing all over everything. At first they seemed very nice while getting the xray, and called my other dentist to get some info for me. Then Dr. Reff told me I needed a $300 scan before he could make a recommendation. This was of course surprising and upsetting but I had little alternative. After looking at the scan he explained to me a complication that had not been fully disclosed to me by my previous endodontist, and finished by saying that the root… canal was not going to be possible and I was going to lose one of my front teeth. At this point I was sick, exhausted, and facing the prospect of hundreds of more dollars of work so I left in tears. Dr. Reff seemed compassionate; he spent the next few days talking with my dentist and decided that he could try the root canal and we scheduled it for the following week. However, when the receptionist called to confirm my appointment I told her I had a cold because I wanted to know if there was any particular advice or preparation besides the usual over the counter medicine. I didn’t get the chance to ask because as soon as she heard “cold” she said I could not come in because “we can’t get sick”. I thought I hadn’t heard her correctly but she further explained that there were only three of them there and no one could get sick. I said you’re a doctor’s office and I need this treatment, I can’t believe that is Dr. Reff’s policy. She said she would check with him and call me back later. Of course she didn’t, and when I called back to see if they would honor the appointment, she said no, Dr. Reff was a dentist not a doctor and he can’t be sick either. She said she would have the office manager call me. When the office manager called me I told her my cold was worse when I had been in the previous week and surely sick people come there all the time. Her response was well they usually don’t tell us beforehand so you just need to wait until you’re better. I told her then that I wasn’t coming back and that I needed a copy of my scan. She said she would mail me a CD. Well unsurprisingly no CD, so before my next consultation I had to drive up and get the CD. When I walked into the office the manager said “I remember you, you canceled your appointment.” I said no, you did, and when she proceeded to argue with me, I told her I just needed my CD. She said I was rude and kept arguing the point, “yes you did, you canceled because you were sick.” I was visibly furious and when I turned around and walked out they were both laughing and the receptionist sang out a snarky “Have a great day!” to my back. It was after this that I knew I needed to write this review. From my conversations with Dr. Reff it is hard to imagine him working with these people but maybe he never sees this behavior, or maybe he encourages it, hard to say. And he might be a very skilled endodontist -- I’ll never know because I never got past the Mean Girls at his front desk.
