Dr. Andrew I. Schafer

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Andrew Schafer. After 38 years of really solid health, the last 3 have been filled with out of the blue healthscares-- from possible long covid to a bad bout of mono at 40 to a period where I had to rehabilitate myself to walk again....You can imagine my relief when a good Doctor like Dr Schafer become the head of my treatment team a few months ago. I have been very lucky in my time with good friends & family and pretty good medical care all throughout, but it took nearly 15 months to get a diagnosis of a Blood Disorder that turns out I was born with. The initial Doc that diagnosed me was very smart, but not much of a communicator. And I am grateful to him for my diagnosis, but I knew I needed to see someone who would really communicate, given the fact that my Mother, myself, and my very best friend are all dealing with Blood Disorders. So when I got to NY Presbyterian and to Dr. Schafer , everything changed. He is as kind as he is smart and… he really put me at ease with helping explain this diagnosis and understand how to manage it. He is patient, and actually answered and listened to all my questions..and I had many questions after this many years of not knowing this diagnosis. I would recommend him to anyone, and while he is retiring soon, I just feel so lucky to have met him and worked with him. It was a real game changer. What an amazing Doc.

The wait time was less than 10 minutes. He was attentive and gave me a solid plan we would follow to get me back on a healthy road.

Dr. Schafer is wonderful. Very caring, listened to all our questions, and thoroughly reviewed our mother's medical history before evaluating her current condition.

Dr Schafer is a doctor’s doctor. He is kind. He is knowledgeable . He is thorough. He explains everything about my condition in “English”. He is the very best there is!! His staff is also very helpful.

Dr. Schafer and staff helped me get to the bottom of a worrying and unusual condition by being extremely thorough and listening to each and every bit of information I offered. I felt so grateful and hopeful when I left, which is unusual for me as someone with complex medical conditions. In addition, the doctor's patience, kindness and detailed yet understandable explanation totally put me at ease. I am so impressed with this gold-standard level of professionalism.

Dr. Schafer is one of the best doctors I have ever been to in NY. In fact, I would rate him as the best.

Dr. Schafer is highly accomplished and capable. He also takes his time and answers all questions thoroughly. I have had an excellent experience and am grateful to have access to his practice. His team is kind, helpful and responsive.

I feel so fortunate to be able to see such an excellent and kind doctor. No one looks forward to another doctor's appointment but this was entirely positive. Dr. Schafer took time to explain everything clearly and took a lot of the anxiety out of the visit.

Dr. Schafer is the most thorough, compassionate and knowledgeable physician. He takes his time in listening to his patient as well as reviewing the patients chart. I would highly recommend him and have recommended him to others with benign blood disorders.
