Dr. Andrew D Schmidt, DDS

Dr. Andy and his wife, Terra, moved to Bellingham in March of 2007. Dr. Andy started Schmidt Orthodontics with the goal of providing the highest possible level of professional care and service and, at the same time, creating a caring, friendly and fun atmosphere for all patients and families to enjoy. Schmidt Orthodontics uses state-of-the-art orthodontic technology to help achieve this goal.
Dr. Andrew Schmidt was born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. After graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1993, he attended Gustavus Adolphus College, earning Phi Beta Kappa honors and graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997.
After college, he spent a year as a United States Professional Tennis Association certified tennis professional and also took time to be a part of an 81-day Outward Bound program, where he experienced winter camping, rock climbing, white water rafting, and backpacking.
Dr. Schmidt went on to attend dental school at the University of Iowa. Some of his …most notable achievements in dental school include serving as president of the dental student body and being elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a highly selective national dental honor society. After graduating with his D.D.S. degree in June 2002, Dr. Schmidt was one of five residents accepted into the orthodontic program at the University of Washington in Seattle where he earned his certificate of orthodontics and Master of Science degree in Dentistry.
At UW he mentored under and completed his research project with internationally known researcher and teacher Dr. Vincent Kokich. Points of emphasis in Dr. Schmidt’s training include interdisciplinary treatment planning, facial esthetics, and adult treatment.
