Dr. Andrew Carlos Vivas, MD

After 3 months of excruciating lower back and leg pain and an epidural that did nothing, I was referred to Dr. Vivas. Upon my consultation, Dr. Vivas meticulously reviewed my MRI with me, explaining everything in lay terms. Surgery was recommended and it’s the best decision I could of made. Dr. Vivas is an outstanding surgeon and he cares about his patients.

Dr. Vivas has done fellowships in neuro as well as ortho. He specializes in spondylolisthesis. I had a 4 hour surgery to fix a broken vertebrae, give me a disc I no longer have and my whole spine needed to be fused in the right place. The surgery was over 8 hours later. I was so stable, he went the extra hundred miles and cleaned up scar tissue, repaired nerves and reared around to front spine and cleaned that up too! He tilde I would not get my height back but I think I did! I can stand straight up. I can lay flat. It’s only been 3 days. I’m still in the hospital with a draining wound but I have no more ant-bite feelings or darting pain in legs and feet. My big toes no longer drop! The surgical staff in recovery was not on the ball. Not thoughtful. They could have let me order food or transfer me to my room so that my mother could have brought my belongings to me...like my phone so I could tell people I was alive! As I lay here getting better and better, I can let those… mistakes go. Even so, it did not reflect upon Vivas’ hard work. I high recommend him for surgeries like mine.

He did surgery on my dad. Outcome of the surgery was bad, he's in worst pain now then before the surgery. Dr. Vivas was evasive and dodgy, he wouldn't give me a clear answer and was hardly around. When he was supposed to check up on my dad, he didn't show up. Don't trust that smile of his, he doesn't have the hands to make you better!

Dr. Vivas visited my mother for a neuro consult at Moffitt Cancer Center. He was absolutely oustanding. He explained every aspect of her problem in terms that we could understand. You never had the sense that he had his mind on the next patient. He has such a sense of calmness that absolutely makes even the worst news ok. He does not placate a family in any way allowing them to have a false sense of the reality of the situation. He gives his opinion and backs it up with he sees. He took our cell phone numbers and said he would follow up with us later today.
