Dr. Angel Villanueva, MD

After reading the negative reviews listed here I need to respond. Dr. V does see patients in his office/exam room. When it is time for your appointment he comes to the front desk and calls you in. The messy shelves are all full of every type medical book one could imagine. Wow...I find it difficult to criticize a doc who has reference material. As for the profanities in the restroom...I have been going to this office with my mother and myself for the last twenty years to never see anything like stated. Typical individuals stating the doctor did not listen to them because they already knew the diagnosis before they got there. These people did not get hand held and the attention they want should be somewhere other than a doctor's office. This doctor does care and with the number of patient's he sees these negative comments are a drop in the ocean. I find him knowledgeable and have put my trust in his experience and messy shelves.

He tells it like it is, pulls no punches, he is very professional yet I've found he does have a sense of humor. One that you have to get to know him to find it. I'm quite pleased to know him.

Upon arriving, I first noticed that the building was very old and in poor repair. Carpet was old and dirty, walls in need of new paint, etc. While waiting, I went to the restroom, where there were obscenities written on the walls! Seriously? No one has bothered to paint over this? This isn't a bar, it's a doctor's office! When Dr. Villanueva called my name, he just shouted my name into the waiting room. He didn't even walk out to find me or make eye contact. When walking down the hall into his office, I immediately got the impression that I was a waste of his time. No introduction, no handshake offered, nothing. In his office, which by the way, was a total mess (cluttered bookshelves, piles upon piles of unorganized paperwork, stacks of junk on the floor) he sat down and asked me the usual "new patient" questions. Also, nothing says "you're beneath me" like a doctor putting a desk between him and his patient. When he took my blood pressure, it read extremely high. I'm normally… around 120-ish over 80-ish, give or take a few points. His meter (which was a cheap digital battery-powered monitor from CVS) read 165 over 100. I've always been told that any doctor worth their weight takes blood pressure from the standard analog/stethoscope method. When he saw the high reading and warned me that my blood pressure was way too high, I said "I may be nervous from just being in the doctor's office. Maybe give me a few minutes to relax?" So he took my weight and asked a few more questions. Then he took my blood pressure again, this time from the right arm, and it read 180/110. He immediately started talking about putting me on blood pressure medication. I said, "Again, I'm pretty nervous about being at the doctor." He replied, "No, I gave you enough time to relax." Hello? You just met me 5 minutes ago, and you already want me on meds? Maybe your Duracells are low in that monitor? Maybe it's getting old? Of course he wanted to put me on meds, considering his waiting room has flatscreens that loop commercials for various medications over and over all day. No thanks. I will say that his office staff were incredibly friendly, but needless to say, I won't be back. As soon as I left, I stopped at the grocery store and took my blood pressure from their machine. Big surprise, 126/83.

I absolutely agree with the previous review! I was having trouble sleeping and dealing with some depression, as I had just lost my husband of twenty years. He put me on 200 mg of seroquel and told me it would help with both issues, due to I did not want anything habit forming to assist with the sleep. In my return visit 30 days later I had put on 20 pounds! I told him that there was something really wrong and dismissed it very rudely and told me it was my hormones. Next visit I repeated my same concern and was dismissed once again! So than I began to investigate the drug and come to find out it was a bi-polar medicine (which I had never been on or diagnosed with in my life) and 200 mg was the highest dose. Now I realize I am not a physician, but logic tells me if indeed that was the medicine I needed I should have been put on a small dose and then maybe, if needed, the mg raised. I eventually came off of it on my own decision as he WOULD NOT LISTEN TO ME! I had the sweats, nausea, etc… for a good couple weeks! What a total nightmare, so here I am a year and half later and still trying to get off the last of the 43 pounds I put on. Oh and by the way Dr. Villanueva, my hormone level has been checked and the levels are normal. This guys licensed needs revoked!!

Dr. Villanueva is a complete quack. He didnt even listen to my concerns and the ones he did hear he just dismissed. I would not advise anyone to go see him. Furthermore, his office was dirty, and he didnt even have an exam room! He met with me in his actual office! Also I had to have bloodwork done and he told me that it was my responsibility to call him for the results he would not be calling me. Isnt that his job as a Dr. to follow up with patients on things of this nature?
