Dr. Angela C Akonye, MD

I’m a little shocked by all the stellar reviews. I go to Westover so maybe her other practice is much better. I have had no negative experiences with Dr. Akonye herself, but the staff is rude with the exception of the lab and one or two of the women who work the front desk. I don’t have enjoyable experiences in person or over the phone with the nurses - they want to spend as little time with you as possible. Im sorry you’re so busy, truly. Every single appointment so far has been getting there 10 minutes prior to my appointment time, getting my vitals taken 20 minutes after my appointment time, sitting in the patient room for AT LEAST an hour to be seen for 5 minutes by the doctor. And they have strict protocols for masks as well as bringing your children with you so I have to have childcare for each visit. I thought my first couple experiences especially the wait times, were flukes which is why I didn’t change practices earlier on in my pregnancy. But each appointment took… almost three hours of my day and I walked away feeling very haphazardly taken care of at best.

The office has a designated play area. Yet you can't bring your child with you to your appointment room. So if my husband takes off for an appointment we would have to still get a sitter or he wouldn't be able to hear our babies heart beat, because he would have to sit with our daughter. Not only do we not have money for a sitter every doctors appointment, my husband is not able to take off for every appointment. They were rude when I went to my first appointment and did not know we couldn't bring our children.

I was referred by a party that had vested interests unbenoucned to me. Had I known this prior to my visit I would have never scheduled an appointment. The office was very well kept, clean, and contemporary. The front desk staff contradicted themselves from my scheduling call regarding insurance so I found that frustrating since it's not uncommon for my insurance company to negotiate a lower rate and then I end up overpaying. The nurse was polite and professional. The doctor did not look at any of my medical records nor show interest in looking at them the numerous times I offered. She did not seem interested in helping me and recommended I go elsewhere. I had high hopes for this visit but will not return. The location was fabulous but the care left something to be desired. Not to mention the signs all over stating no children were allowed in order to protect pregnant women from disease but you could hear the staff hacking up a lung behind the wall.

She is an excellent Doctor. I recommend her to ever woman I know. She is very knowledgable and caring. She actually listens to what you want and need. If you are looking for a good doctor make an appointment with her!!
