Dr. Anil Mohan Desilva, MD

An early interest in how ancient cultures delivered healthcare evolved into Dr. De Silva’s pursuit of a career in medicine. After completing his undergraduate degree in anthropology at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, Dr. De Silva studied medicine at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Dr. De Silva originally considered surgery as a specialty and completed a research fellowship in orthopaedics at Stanford University in Stanford, California, followed by an internship and residency in surgery at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein Medical Center in New York City. Dr. De Silva soon realized, however, that the speed and urgency of anesthesiology, especially cardiac anesthesiology, was a much better fit.

Wanting to practice at the very best program in the country, Dr. De Silva accepted a position at Moffitt Hospital at University of California, San Francisco, and worked with renowned anesthesiologist, Dr. Ronald Miller, who was the chairman of the …department from 1984 to 2009. Dr. De Silva had the opportunity in the early 1990s to work with then-cardiothoracic surgery fellow Dr. John Kupferschmid.

More than 23 years later and ready for a change, Dr. De Silva decided to join the Methodist Physicians family to work again with Dr. Kupferschmid and the entire team of dedicated congenital heart surgery experts at Methodist Children’s Hospital.

Dr. De Silva is board certified in anesthesiology. He is a member of a several professional associations including American Society of Anesthesiologists, International Anesthesia Research Society and the American Medical Association.
