Dr. Anila Dhame Adhami, MD

Seeing Dr. Adhami was the most dehumanizing and traumatizing experiences I have ever had. I love blunt, efficient, and informative doctors. I also love patient, empathetic, and joking doctors. She had none of those good qualities. I was mistreated by a psychiatrist at the time. She didn’t want to hear my concerns, recommend other psychiatry providers, or want to hear why things weren’t easy for me to get done exactly the way she wanted. It seemed to annoy her things that I, the patient, did not make things convenient for her. Patients do not control when appointments for labs, tests, and seeing providers they are told to go to. I had concerns that I was being misdiagnosed. She dismissed physical issues as anxiety, depression, med seeking, uncompliant, etc. She was not unbiased and did not consider anything that I spoke. I do not like everything I say to be believed and do not like being catered to. That is unprofessional and dangerous. Reasonable doubt is very important and valuable.… There was no reasoning that I saw in my appointments with her. No consideration and thoughtlessly proscribed medications and testing I never needed. The portal showed inaccurate and missing information. Unwanted drugs were prescribed that can be DAMAGING to take unless truly necessary. This grown woman yelled at me for showing exhaustion, confusion, pain, and mental and physical health symptoms. I am a human. Not a chart. People should not have to somehow make their conditions more appealing or undetectable for a doctor’s comfort and ease. She argued and dismissed when I brought up concern and easy to see flaws in her reasoning. Things that I, a patient with little medical knowledge and much confusion, could easily see. I didn’t think I needed such strong and concerning medications without knowing what was going on first. Uncompliance and med-seeking comments were made when educating and explaining her reasoning was needed. I felt threatened she would diagnose and proscribe many things causing me more harm. I left and found a new primary provider and psychiatrist who fixed her and that other doctor’s mistakes and harm in ONE appointment each. I take two medications total, have little to no mental health issues, and feel safe no thanks to Dr. Adhami. I am now terrified to take any over the counter medication when I have pain. No one should feel threatened, coerced, dismissed, unconsidered, have drugs pushed upon, and leave untreated with more health issues. I can’t believe my health insurance had paid for this! This is exactly the treatment that insurance is in the right to deny and question. I NEVER thought I’d ever be defending insurance providers questioning medications, tests, and treatments by A MAYO CLINIC doctor!

I set up an appointment to get a bc implant but she wouldn't do it to the possibility that I could be pregnant. My normal period was in a week so she told me to come back when I get my period. I get my period and call the hospital to make my appointment and the soonest they schedule me is a week later, after my period is done. Day of the appointment her nurse calls me and says she won't put it in cause I have to be ON my period. There is not literature anywhere that says this. She tried to make me wait another MONTH before she'd do the procedure. I requested another doctor.

Dr. Adhami was my provider for a number of months, although, due to an issue on her end, I only saw her 2-3 times. For almost 15 years I have had mental health diagnoses that require me to visit my primary provider every three months, and she is by far the most insulting and biased provider I have ever had. In sum, Dr. Adhami failed to notice that I am a person, not a patient in a textbook, and would frequently overrule my feelings of what I was experiencing. As someone with over a decade of experience with OCD, ADHD, anxiety, and depression I found her approach to me baffling. She does not listen to what you are saying to her, and argues her point with you. For instance, I told her that I had been feeling fatigued, and she told me that I was depressed (which I told her was not correct based on my past experiences with depression), that I don't drink enough water (I had just woken up and hurried to my appointment, which I told her), and she also denied me getting allergy… tests done (because there was no proof I needed one [although my older sister and mother are allergic to nearly everything]). Another time I had a check up with her and stress has caused my neck to lock up, and she refused to even look at my neck until I took a drug test to ensure I was taking my ADHD medication. Once the results came back that I was taking my ADHD meds, and also no drugs I wasn't supposed to be taking, she said she would look at my neck, and by that time I had already been to a chiropractor. She is a bully and should not be working with people.

She was very thorough and approached everything with her full attention.

Very straight forward which I like. This did seem a bit intimidating at first, but once you get to know her you'll see past her bluntness.
