Anita Akhtar, MD

28 with joint pain so severe I can't walk during flare ups.. Was tested multiple times for rheumatoid arthritis (was negative every time) eventually instead of digging for more answers- I was pushed off to UPMC. Luckily, I'm able to afford UPMC care and able to travel the 1.5 hours for a doctor to treat me because she was 'at a loss' for what could be going on. Dr. Akhtar seems to only care about patients with easy to find issues. Do not waste your time and money going to her appointments if you're young woman showing symptoms of a autoimmune disorder. I was told multiple times my joints were flaring because of my depression and anxiety or potentially it was because I had given birth 3 years ago.

Don't bother if you have anything complicated or sero negative!

I saw Dr. Anita Akhtar once in an emergency when I was having extremely bad back pain and sciatica. (my normal PCP was out of office.) Pain was about 8 out of 10 and I could not stand up straight. The pain was so bad I already missed 3-4 days and could not go back to class for the foreseeable future with the amount of pain I was in. She took literally 1 minute to look at and diagnose me and said nothing was wrong. She refused to give me medicine, she wouldn't even give me a doctors note to excuse me from class. After begging her she gave me a doctors note for 1 day and discharged me. The worst doctor I have every seen in my life! I went back a week later and my PCP saw me and I went in for an MRI etc and I had many serious issues and he gave me temp meds to relax the back muscles and a painkiller in addition to Physical Therapy and more tests. DO NOT RECOMMEND Dr. Anita Akhtar!!!!!!!
